Cloth VS Leather Seats VS Dogs

I am a Floridian and in the market for an 2011 T4R. I test drove a Limited and was pleased. I wanted to look at a Trail but like many places Trails come in for someone that has ordered one and vanish from the lot like they were never there. The seats and fabric are my concern on the trail. Are they warmer than the leather? Am I going to end up with never ending swamp back?

Cloth seats will be cooler than leather.

I have a German Shepherd that never stops shedding. I prefer leather and have it in my Chevy diesel. My 99 4Runner is cloth. I use a quilt like cover that hooks to the rear seat headrests and covers the seat backs and bottoms to catch a lot of dog hair. Dog hair still gets everywhere. Leather is easier to clean. To get dog hair off the cloth seats and carpet (both vehicles) I use one of those man made chamois cloths dampened with water. I does a good job of collecting the fur. I use it on the quilted covers as well.

I have a 90lb chocolate lab. I have the beige leather. My lab stays in the far back 100% of the time. He loves it back there with the rear window rolled down. Since he stays back there, there's no chance of him scratching my leather, so that's not a concern of mine.

One thing that I should point out is this: After long hikes or trips to the park, my dog (like many others) starts drooling and panting. I live in AZ & supposedly dogs don't sweat. Anyway -- he likes to stick his head between the headrests to catch the A/C when we're on our way back home. Obviously some drool ends up dripping on the leather, but it wipes right off without any visible residue. I'm not sure how a cloth interior would stand up to repeated drooling/washing on the same areas. Figured I'd mention that...

this will be true for me too - my dogs will stay in the back 100% of the time. they have not YET been in my new Runner bc I am waiting for my Ultimate Pet Liners to come in, which should be in the next week or two. Once I have those installed, i'll have them ride in the new Runner for the first time ever but no worries about dog hair sticking anywhere bc i will have the pet liners and bc i have leather.

also very true about the slobber/drool. that is why I installed a WalkyGuard Pet Barrier to make sure they keep their heads in the back and off the 2nd row seats.

My german shepherd sheds like nobody's business so the Pet Liners, Leather Seats, and Pet Barrier are all essentials for me. The only thing I am debating is replacing the stock headliners with vinyl headliners so the hair doesn't stick (i had a huge prob w/ this in the last vehicle and it got pretty nasty and hard to clean the stock HL).

I have an SR5 with leather and two dogs. I have always had leather (in sedans) with dogs - and it definitely takes a beating. This leather seems soft, and I am afraid that they will tear it, so the dogs ride in the back. I have the Walky Guard pet barrier up so they can't jump onto the seats. Right now, the dog hair sticks really bad to the carpet on the back of the second row seats and to the cargo floor mat. And the dogs have scratched the plastic in a few spots. All these dog issues should be solved soon when I get the Hamilton Ultimate Pet Liner for the cargo area (it ships Friday - can't wait!). I got my liner last week. It works great! For those with the sliding tray, you can still use it normally. There is a separate peice for the tray itself.

I also got a bumper cover and a piece to cover the tailgate/hatch/below the rear window (I couldn't get a good photo of that). I need to send thse photos on to Cargoliner as the bumper cover doesn't fully cover the bumper but should be a simple fix of moving the velcro.

Sorry it's not a clean photo. My dogs were in the back after a run in the rain.

I had a lab with my old pickup truck, cloth interior, complete nightmare. At least the leather is one less thing for the hair to stick to.

RJS-T4R: I paid a lot for the liner, $350, but really feel it was worth the money to protect what I spent on my dog hauler. It's great quality and fits really well. Check out my link to cargoliner.com in an earlier post.

As to the hair issue, I just vacuum the back out and wipe down the leather.

That is one insanely innocent face, I have a chocolate lab hes like 130 lbs or more but hes still got the innocent face thing going for him, I think he knows its our weakness heh!!!
