Going to try and make my auto trans manually shifted, sick of the kickdown/passing gear crap when I need the throttle body open at low rpm.

This is the first auto I've ever owned (outside of an OOOOLD Lincoln Continental) and it drives me NUTS sometimes not being able to control where I shift.

Yeah, that site has a lot of good info. I might try to fab somthing up in the near future. Paddle shift would be fun.

I daydream about this idea all the time. If I had more skills, I'd look into it myself too.

I ordered some random electronics and switches to try to fab up a paddle shift setup. Don't know if it will ever work, but going to try out of boredom.

this just reminded me to get the wire ends from this 4runner in the junk yard. I got a bunch of stuff planned out on how to make a paddle shift setup but just wanted a better plug and play system. I can check around a couple other cars that might have the same plug if you want one.

Some of the guys from the SOGI (supra owners group) did this back in the day on the MKIII's. I never did read too much on it since my Supra was a manual trans, but if you run into issues and you can find any of the old email archives there is info out there.

on a another forum. a member was able to add paddle shiftiing to his 07 tundra. he used an is250/350 wheel

I remember that... there was a kit that used some generic red buttons on the the steering wheel connected to a control box you mounted under the dash... I remember looking at that for my Supra (... it was an auto).

CM, if you find a way to make it work on a T4R that'd be pretty interesting. Get it done man. If you wired it up custom, you could probably sell those kits.

After talking with my collaborator over the last week looks like this project is going to happen. Paddles showed up today and he emailed me the first blueprint for the control box. Needs to be built and tested, just need time, which is in short supply.

Software is written! Now waiting on electronics from Ebay and China.

The program came to about 150 lines of code and a total of 2496 bytes, pretty small. This will run the shift solenoids, calculate paddle input, and run different colored LED's on a gear indicator to show you what gear you are in.

Colors I chose for the LED's in the gear indicator that will probably go somewhere on top of the steering column or inside the cluster somewhere.

I think a good place for them would be in the instrument cluster. Since yours is a 98 I think a good spot would be where the warning lights are at on the bottom, there is a empty black space of plastic. It would be cool too if you were able to have some sort of face over the LEDs that would say 1, 2, 3, 4 or something similiar so it's says what gear you are in over just remembering a color.

Not sure what you mean. Right paddle switches up a gear, left padddle switches down a gear. You could leave from a stop in overdrive if you wanted to.

You don't know what I mean because I'm an idiot. Lol. For some reason I was thinking that our tranny's had 4 gears plus the overdrive making 5 total. By the time I realized what I was saying, I had already hit reply.
