Clutch going out?

no you dont want to open that can of worms if you cant do it yourself your already high 300 will be around 3000 at that point.
a clutch is easy on a rwd vehicle cant you do it yourself and save 300$
2 jacks some jack stands and 17mm and 14mm sockets and wrenches and you can do it yourself.

Everybody I have talked to said its a PITA on it because its a 4x4

download the FSM from SV_DUDE's stick tread and check it out 20 or so bolts and some he muscle and the cross-member and tranny will come down, install new clutch with the clutch alignment tool and instillation reverse removal

it takes me like 30 minutes to drop my trannys i take the tcase and cross-member all at once and disconnect the front and rear shaft no big deal man. you may struggle a little to get the tranny off the engine but just wiggle it around and it will seperate then jack it up even and slide it back. i take my gear shifters off and cover them with duct tape. and slide the tranny back and lower down with a jack. 2 people is preferred.
that's why its not worth 300 for a shop to do it in my opinion.

300 is a good deal if you have the money and dont want to do it yourself then that would be your best route.

I think I'm gonna go ahead and have him do it. I could prob talk another mechanic down another $50 but, I want it done right by someone who knows what there doing.

So I have been driving around and noticed that it only slips in 4th gear.. Is this possible that the clutch would only slip in one gear? Im thinking now it must be a problem in the tranny. I've flushed the fluids a few months ago. It doesn't slip out of gear.. Just slips for a second and them seems to catch. Im hoping its the clutch because I already have the kit. just seems that it would slip all the gears if it was. Anyone have any input or experience with this?

It usually starts slipping in higher gears first. So 4th and 5th is where you will notice it first then it will go down from there slowly.

If you would have read like 2 lines up I stated that I already the clutch kit..

5th gear doesn't seem to slip. I only have noticed it in 4th

Either way your clutch is going out and will need replaced sometime in the near future.
