Clutch issue with my '97 5-speed

My clutch friction point is RIGHT off the floor. It makes the truck tough to drive, especially since all my other cars have friction points about halfway up the clutch travel. The issue is compounded by a gas pedal that has some slack, but that is another issue.

Is there a way to adjust my clutch pedal, so the friction point is a little higher off the floor?

ETA: The friction point being right off the floor means that I cannot use a floor mat with a section that rests under the clutch. It's that bad.

You can try adjust the free play(if your clutch is still good). Its in the FSM. Basically you can move your engagement point around. Mine wasn't that bad but I adjusted it to exactly where I wanted it. Make sure that the clutch isn't engaged a little all the time, it'll burn the clutch out.

Just adjust the pedal (free play as stated by hambob). Its a thread rod with a locknut. Loosen the locknut and adjust away!

If adjustment doesn't work, make sure the pedal bracket is firmly fixed to the fire wall. The bracket can corrode and start to flex when the pedal is depressed. Also, the pedal bushings can wear out. I haven't had to fix either of these myself, but I know they can happen.

Great! Thanks. I will investigate and start poking around this weekend. I hope I can get it adjusted like a normal clutch. I currently need to be slow and deliberate when I shift, to ensure that the clutch is FULLY depressed before selecting a new gear. If I do it smoothly and quickly, as I do with all my other cars, I sometimes get a little grinding. It's annoying.

Thanks for the help, all. I went under the dash and made a clutch adjustment tonight. A small adjustment goes a long way, apparently. I might need to back it off a bit. While I had the tools out, I also made a throttle cable adjustment. I had to use the full range of adjustment there, and that made the bigger difference between the two changes. The truck drives well and feels so much better now!!
