Cylinder 3 misfire. Never had a problem out of the yota until last weekend. Truck started bucking and surging. All fluids were fine and I changed the plugs/wires/fuel filter. While it isnt as bad it still does it on occasion. Only thing left I know to do is change the coils. It has 130,000 miles on it. Any thing else that I may have missed?

If you have done all that so far...I'd say about 90% sure its the fuel injector. Same thing happened to me (except on cylinder 2) and it was a malfunctioning fuel injector.

Once you get to it, you can try cleaning it if it looks like there is stuff stuck inside. I would recommend you just replace it although it costs ~$150 just for the part. If its stuck open, you definetely need to replace. I did not want to do it myself because it would have been a pain in my own driveway...but its managable. I can send you the step-by-step in an email if you want to try. [email protected] Mine cost $410 total for the repair.

By the way, i would not drive a lot on it with this check engine light because you could be dumping raw fuel into your cat which could lead to an even more expensive repair (aka new CAT).

Hope this helps a little...email me if you have any more questions

Don't just blindly change the coil pack. They're expensive ($100 CAD apiece) They are easy to check with an ohm-meter.

Injectors rarely go bad. While you are at it, clean the MAP sensor.

If you are lucky, the coil pack can disconnected from the harness. That way you can swap the coil-pack for cyl#3 for another cyl and see if the problem follows the coil. If so then you now know what the problem is.
