Hi, I have a 1997 Toyota 4 Runner, 4 cylinder, manual transmission, with 207k miles.
About a month ago I got a code P0304 (misfire cylinder 4). I was experiencing rough idles, poor performance when accelerating, and my shifter knob was shaking about.
So I replaced the spark plugs and the wire set. Problem solved.... That was until a month later when I got up this morning. My car had a bad case of the Monday's. Cylinder 4 was misfiring all the way to work with all the same symptoms and the same code. When I got home I pulled the spark plug out of cylinder 4. It looked a little burnt around the tip. The boot looked good. Here is a pic of the plug. What do you think I should try next?
Also, I don't know if they're related, but when cruising on the freeway I occasionally get code p0420... catalyst system efficiency below threshold. I recently had to get a smog certificate to register the car and they said I passed with flying colors for California standards.
Thanks to everyone who reads this!
