I would like to go with a 2" (maximum) suspension lift for my 2010 4R, SR5 4x4. Since I live in Pittsburgh, they are OVERKILL with the road salt in the winter, so I need shock components that won't rust or pit. I will stay with the 17" x 7.5" FJ wheels and LT tires in 265/70/17 size, so I don't want/need new upper control arms. Will the King or Overland kits be OK, or are they going to be ruined by the road salt ? Should I be considering the adjustable Bilsteins, and 4 new coilsprings (what brand/size) ? Or, would Old Man Emu coilovers be more corrosion resistant ? I don't want to spend $1500 + on a quality 2" suspension lift and have the shaft and/or body of the shock rust & pit. Thanks in advance.

Some companies offer a special coating on their coilovers to help prevent these issues. Pretty sure ICON offers this, not sure about OW.

All of the shock mfgrs. use a cadium plating on their shocks that holds up well. However the sodiumchloride used for the roads will eat them over time. Metal-tech 4x4 is a dealer for ICON, Sway-a-way, Radflo, King and Old Man Emu. ICON is the only mfgr that offers a special coating that is special for these high salt areas. They call it their IVD coating. They charge an extra $100 for this to be added to the coil overs. However they ONLY offer it for the front for some reason. So the rear shocks are just CAD plated like the rest.
The IVD coated coil overs are always a special order item and can take a few extra weeks to get, depending on ICON having the treated shock bodies on hand.
The best suggestion I have for people in these areas that run the high performance parts, spray the parts with the anti rust spray on products.
As for Old Man Emu, these are a powder type pained shock much like the OEM units that come on the truck. They will hold up well, but will eventualy rust as rock chips etc. crack the paint open.

Cool deal. If you are doing the install your self (We can provide a full install guide we wrote, diagrams OE torque settings etc. as OME has no install guide) we do offer pre-loading the springs onto the struts for $40. This saves you messing with a spring compressor doing it yourself or paying a local shop to take the old ones apart and putting the top caps on to the OME's.
