Colorado BS thread

So...any of you live or spend any time on the western range of the Rockies? There's a good chance I'll be moving to Rangely this summer, not too far from Rifle.

Add me to the list of people getting 15MPG (or maybe slightly more).

Heading up to spend the week in Granby/Winter Park next week. We usually do SteamBoat but we're going to take my 3 yr old for his first ski trip and Steamboat expects us to buy a full price lift ticket for my wife - just to take our son on the Magic Carpet. Winter Park only charges $10. Big difference!

Plus I've got 5 BOGO Winter Park lift ticket passes - three from Smashburger and two from Shell Stations. There's a total of seven of us going so we'll be skiing for ~50 a day.

Thankfully my wife got a bunch of groceries at Safeway so I'm gonna fill up @ $1.50 off per gallon before we go. :)

FYI - here's the trick with Safeway/King Soopers gas - if you're going to go to a Target, Best Buy etc. Get the gift cards at Safeway (or King Soopers) you'll get discounted gas at 2 points per $1 spent (you're spending the money anyhow, may as well save on some gas) Sometimes during special occasions such as fathers day they do 4 times points - so if you buy a $50 Gift Card for Target you get 200 points - that's 20¢ per gallon.

So, let's say you're gonna spend $100 at Target for something, plus get $150 worth of groceries that could be around 50¢ gallon saved.

We've got up to 2.00 off per gallon before. :bluejump:

Sometimes I'll even use a Credit Card with rewards points, then just pay off the CC right away.

I've been called a cheap frugal bastard from time to time…. :)

I live up here in Craig. It is like 40 miles from Steamboat. I think it sucks here personally. It has just been cold this year. We need the snow but we arent getting it. All we are getting is the cold damit:violin:. It went to 36 below zero a couple weeks ago and since then during the day we are lucky to hit 35. The snow has been in the yard for like 2 months so it is crunchy and painful. I moved here from Ft. Collins for my career. I'm beginning to regret the decision a bit. I love my job and get paid well but there just isnt anything out here and did I mention it is cold? I go to Ft. Collins a lot and the last few weeks it has been in the 50's and 60's. WTF? Anyway this is just me venting a little bit. If you do move this way get in touch with me and we can hit some trails. I'm trying to find some more people to go wheelin with. I've gone with some guys in a club here but they are all sitting 6+ inches on atleast 37's so I end up not going far or just riding with one of them.

Gosh, you make it sound horrible!! It was pretty bleak looking when I drove through a couple months ago too, so I see where you are coming from. I'd only be out there for 4-5 months for a law enforcement academy, in the summer and fall. It should be really nice out there then, and I'll definitely want to go wheeling! I'll keep you posted.

As for western slope, the best part I know of is Fruita for mountain biking - some really great trails there.

Sorry if I seem so negative. I just have all my old friends and some family over in the Ft. Collins and Denver area and I lived in Ft. Collins for almost 10 years. Guess I'm just homesick. It is what you make of it. I'm definitely up for some wheelin though!

I'm in Edwards. Great are for ski/snowboarding, but all the trails around here are closed to wheeled vehicles until like July :mad:
 
The skiing got pretty epic right after a knee injury sidelined me, which makes sense. So I tool around inside while my friends get photos like this: :frusty:

Ah man, sorry to hear that. I feel your pain though, I missed out on 90% of the 10/11 season with an achilles injury (I was also unemployed at the time so it COULD have been an epic season). Hope it heals quickly!

That being said, anyone else chasing the snow this weekend? I think I'll be Monarch bound (with a slight chance of Wolfie) this afternoon...
 
I'm jealous. I just did some stuff in the back yard. It's almost 80 degrees and muggy. Within a couple of minutes I was covered with gnats. I can't wait to get the hell out of here.
 
So glad we got all this snow! The Runner just tanks right through it all. Very little slippage with snow this deep.

I drove up Flagstaff in Boulder earlier. It was kinda pointless though since you couldn't see your hand in front of your face.

Everyone was looking at me weird as i bombed up the mountain.

Hahaha! Ya know thats what surprised me the most about Runners. I could open it up a little and it almost felt like i was on dry road even with all this snow. Didnt wanna get to0 risky on the road today though. Too many FWD cars on the road today sliding around. Maybe I can have some real fun before work tomorrow if i beat all the traffic.

Gotta have 4x4. I love seeing new people here move to town with 2wd and think theyre going to get where they want all year round. FWD and good winter tires, you can pull it off. RWD is just ridiculous. one of my friends has a little 4banger mazda truck, and his top speed with snow on the ground is MAYBE 25mph :first:

Moving here with a vehicle like may be excusable, so long as you upgrade(to a T4R?). I knew a guy back in high school who bought a Mitsubishi 3000 GT(rwd) one summer and honestly thought it was the best purchase ever. he was an idiot.

BUT: 90% of all the cars I see in the ditch are 4x4. Anyone else notice that? A good drive train cant fix stupid
 
haha damn thats a serious swamper truck. That might be bofa's cousin?

I traded in my lifted GMC 2500 for my T4. The lift was sweet, but the damn thing was so wide and long its a tad sketch on high mountain trails with 300' dropoffs six inches to one side or the other. Tailgating people with that monster sounds like a great way to do some hard time for involuntary manslaughter
