Colorado People- Advice needed...

We are going to be making a trip from Kansas City for the weekend of July 4th. I call it "camping" but we will probably just be getting a cabin somewhere. So far we were looking into the bueno vista area and Golden Gate Canyon. Are these good spots? From what I read there are hiking, biking and 4x4 trails near by just about any campground. Most of the hiking trails of course start on the grounds. Im not sure where to take the 4runner though. Id like some easy/moderate trails, mainly just to get up and see some scenery. Its pretty flat here in KS so Id like to get some good pictures lol. The 4runner has a small lift and Nitto Terra Grapplers, but I will be going at it alone, so no where I may risk getting stuck.

Could you recommend any better places to stay somewhere in line with or just west of Boulder/Denver? Trying not to go TOO far west, because Im already looking at a 10 hour drive, but definitely want to get into the mountains.

Im open to any suggestions. I dont mind a short drive to get to the trails, just dont know where to look.

Many many trails near Central City, connect over to Idaho Springs area.

Stay in touch as time gets closer. So hard to keep track of threads now without the email notifications, feel free to use 3rd gen section as well.

Just head uphill from Golden Gate Canyon area and you'll find stuff. Good resource is traildamage.com (to avoid damage)

Have a great time while out here. Be safe and don't take unnecessary risks unless you feel confident in what you are doing.

Oh I missed the Buena Vista reference just head west over Cottonwood Pass it is paved until the top and from there it just gets even better. If you continue westward over to Crested Butte it gets really spectacular and some of that area is the most favorite for me -but it's all good relative to KS no offense intended whatsoever.

I am glad to lead over in that area and show you around plenty of great spots but frankly am burned out on the more local to Denver stuff...we can do that anytime...

Thanks for the suggestions. It looks like we will be in the Bueno Vista area. I have gotten in touch with Ric and he gave me some good references as well. Its going to be a good time for sure.
