Comfort on long trips

Agree that seat comfort is subjective but while ok and good enough I think the 4R is the most uncomfortable seats compared to every other car / truck I've owned.

I too take forever to find just the right settings - which if why I curse Toyota for not offering memory seats for mine.

Like i said above, it really comes down to personal choice. However, in your posts you have said that you and your wife are getting older(I'm 30 and older is also completely subjective). If her comfort is paramount, then I would look into GX460. It's going to have the best of most worlds. They all (gx460) have KDSS and you can get them with crawl control. People may think think they are soft because they are a Lexus, but in reality it is a Land Cruiser Prado which the 4Runner is built off of. You can get a GX with everything the trail has minus the locker....and it will be much nicer inside. Truth be told I have a Trail because I wanted it. My off-roading would be considered weak by many people. I bought it because I wanted the reserve capacity that it offers (and I think it looks the best). In the end, I would drive a few different vehicles, pick the ones that you want and then let your SO decide the one that she will be the most happy in. After all, happy wife=happy life

Thanks for the recommendations! Part of the reasoning behind the 4Runner is the size of the cargo area. We use it for business and I can fit just enough boxes in it. I'm not so sure about the Lexus, although the quality is what I'm looking for and would prefer.

if i could have swinged a GX460, i would have gotten that instead of the 4Runner.

biggest issue i have with a lexus is that warranty work is 550 miles away. there is no lexus dealer in my state. we are 1 of 5 states that dont have any

I would buy the GX and then have it serviced at the best Toyota dealer around... they can alwso do warranty work there, though you may not have to take it in for anything with how rock solid these vehicles are.

I find the leather seats to be fairly comfortable- if a tad firm.

I have compression fractures in my back (old injury) and my back does just fine. The seat heaters are always on and that helps, I'm sure. I find my butt gets sore first ...

On the other hand, Wifey starts complaining about the seat after about 30 minutes. I may just MOD an ejector seat next.:laugh:

I called lexus financial and after 20 mins on hold after the initial discussion with the customer rep, he had to consult someone higher, I was told, there is no guarantee that they would have the local Toyota dealer do any warranty work.

if it came to valid warranty work, they would either have me drive it to them, unless it was not advisable, then they would flat bed it 550 miles, and then I would have to go fetch it. I don't have the time, 9hrs drive 1 way, to spend upwards of 2-3 days to go get it and drive back.

with all that uncertainty, I wasn't going to take the chance of getting work done by the local Toyota dealer.
