Common problem with projector retro? Or just me?

So not to long ago I did the H1 projector retrofit from TRS.
Bi-xenon Morimoto Mini Stage III Kit (H1) - Complete Retrofit Kits from The Retrofit Source Inc

Love everything about them and they work perfectly (minus the ballast recall)
I have had to take them apart twice because the shrouds have fallen off, my fault.
But the only thing that annoys me is the fact that when I go over bumps they bounce up and down too. They keep going out of alignment and it makes me nervous that they are just bouncing around in there. Anyone else have this problem? If so how did you fix it? Im thinking I will take them apart AGAIN (since im a pro at baking headlights now) and support them with something underneath. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!

hmm... the shrouds are usually just snuggly pressed on. mine have never come loose.

as far as the alignment goes, did you JB Weld or Epoxy the projectors into the housing (the reflective plastic piece) ?

If you look at my guide I show how to properly secure the projectors to the housing once you have a satisfactory alignment. You can then adjust the outer plastic with a screwdriver but the projector wont move freely.

Both the times they came off was when I was wheeling. All the bounceing around made them come off because I didn't use enough glue. the first time was because I didn't use any at all.

The mini H1 does not need any cutting of the housing, it comes with an H4 adaptor so it fits in the stock mounting.
 
u need to tighten them down more. best bet is to get it aligned, drill holes, set screws and nuts. shrouds popping off cuz of the projectors not being tightened down
 
use one of those large arc joint pliers. you can probably tighten thd nut more. also did you use the rubber spacer looking things? those "help" grip the projector to the housing

yes I did. but if I try and tighten it down more the projector will be crooked???????

Be careful not to crack the housing by over tightening them!
The plastic is rather soft and brittle.
Maybe try some kind of thread lock?
Could it be that the whole housing is bouncing and not the projector?
Are you using OEM housings?

I am using oem housing from my old 96.

I would try and tighten them some more but I don't want the projector to end up crooked. how do I tighten them without doing that?
 
Tighten them up snug and double but them, and add some blue locktite. Maybe add some sort of a small rubber pad to insulate/absorb shock... Idk I'm just tossing out ideas, I have never done a projector retrofit so I could be giving poopy advice
 
I have the same setup and never had a problem with anything coming loose.

Question: Why would tightening the nut more, make them crooked?

the minis have 2 nuts at the end "bulb" side and instead of using hardware you just tighten the projector to your housing.

in order for you to tighten and not have them move you need to secure the housing and projector and tighten. if you cant get them to tighten, your going to have to use hardware to secure it or they are going to keep getting knocked loose. also you could get more of those rubber bushings that come with the setup and go that route. last time i got the mini h1's they came with an assortment of those white rubber things but that was a few years ago

I had a similar problem with mine. What I did was get some putty caulk like stuff, I forget the name. And I built up around the back of the projector. It basically acts as another gasket. My issue is that I was bottoming out the threads on the projectors and they were still loose. That seems to have solved the problem for now. Also pick up a 27mm socket. When I used a socket to snug it down I was able to get almost a full turn more.

Edit: what's the issue with the ballast recall? I've noticed that sometimes when I first turn mine on only one will power up and when I flip them off and then back on, they power up fine.

He has Mini H1's! The have a threaded extension coming out of the back and it goes through the place where the light goes with no cutting necessary. Take a look at the web page.

And [MENTION=73787]SantaCruzRunner[/MENTION] if you have tightened them down and they keep coming loose you may want to call TRS I have never had a set of Mini H1's do that. Usually once they are tight they are not going any where. I have a big socket to tighten them when I do Mini H1 retros if you haven't tried that I would it makes a difference of how tight you can get them.

I understand that they can probably be tighter but how do I keep the projector level? whenever I try and tighten them the get all crooked!

What I did was tighten them with the glass lens off and I held the projector in place with my hand until I got them snugged down. Then I plugged them up to check the cutoff and to make any small adjustments before I put them back in the oven.

some of The new ballast that were sent out do not ignite when they are cold, they have new ones in stock and are shipping them out.
