Compass and Thermometer

Alright, someone needs to find out how to wire into that sensor and use it if all of the 3rd gens have it. I've been trying to find a way to get a outside temp sensor in my sr5. All the aftermarket mods I've seen look like aftermarket mods. Someone figure this one out and take some picts!!!

Is it possible to convert my 2000 SR5 HAVC dial controls to a digital Limited style? Has anyone done this before?

Thanks for pointing this out...... I will take pics as I go along. If you follow the thread, we are discussing about installing an "aftermarket" rear view mirror which originally came from a Toyota Celica.

Sorry dude...didn't mean to hi-jack your thread. I assumed the reason for the mirror was to be able to know what temp it is outside and the use of a possible pre-wired temp wire in our 4Runner...since both of these are accomplished with the Limited HAVAC controller, I thought I would throw it out there to help myself and others. I apologize...I'll start my own thread to answer my question...

Good luck on the install of your Toyota Celica mirror. I hope everything works out for you. Merry Christmas my friend...

Russtoy,

You don't need to apologize. You did nothing wrong. I am so sorry if my wordings implied something bad. Any mod to our 4runners are always welcome!

Merry Christmas to you my friend...

No bad feelings...we are all here to share and have fun!

I am looking forward seeing your pictures...

Thank you
Russel

the limited (and not all do) was the only 4runner that I know of that has the digital temp controls.....otherwise it was pre-ordered when truck was bought new....but all 4runners 99-02 were pre-wired for the temp sensor/foglights... the temp sensor is behind the grill/bumper area before the radiator... I'll post pics tomorrow from the mirror I installed, it came from a wrecked GM truck, so I got all of it including the plastic parts that hid the wires as the go up to the headliner....

are you in the DFW area?

I dunno since I never traced the wiring after I did my install....I would think it is inside the cab, probably behind the climate control unit???? didn't need anymore since I routed my own wiring

Hi jc1kz,

I found 2 more of these mirrors today (GM trucks). Did you use only 4 wires out of about 15 wires in the wiring harness?
Have you noticed the intensity of the compass and the temp is somewhat dim? The Celica compass and temp is very bright.

Thanks for the pictures. I think I do not have the plastic connectors to hide the wiring.

I bought the permatax mirror adhesive. Is this the one you used to mount the mirror? Any advice before I do this?

Thanks

you talking about my mirror in the pics? the flash from the camera made it look dimmer than it is, cause it is bright during the day and I think (not sure) it dims some at night so as not to be too bright, and yes that is the adhesive that I used to attach the mirror to the windsheild, four wires is all you need two go to the sensor and red one to the fuse box and black one to ground, before you attach the mirror make sure you have the mirror trial fitted to see that it is at the right level, use like a sharpie to mark where the metal piece attaches to the glass, I used masking tape to hold it in place till it dried...everything else easy, hiding the wires up under the headliner, down the A pillar, to the fuse box, and the sensor wires through the ruber groumet in the fire wall to the engine bay.... good luck....did you get the mirror that shows both temp and compass at the same time, ot the one where you have to switch it back and forth? mine dispays both at the same time and has the square dispay, the other one is a rectangular dispaly and only shows temp or compass not both at the same time.

I don't know whether you still remember the wiring.

The black+white line is ground, Yellow was +12 V

Green +white line and the black wire goes to the temp sensor.

Is this is correct?

Alright, I'll do the way you suggested. Just follow the instructions in the glue right?

I will install the celica mirror, which is rectangular.

oh okay I thought you got another one from a GM, just use the wiring configuation that you have that got your mirror working in the picture. because the wiring harness on this GM mirror is different. (black/white, green, pink, grey, brown)

I like the GM mirror but it is slightly dim compared to the Celica mirror. Celica mirror shows direction or temp at a time, but not both. GM shows both but dim... This is the problem with too many options....

This is my tomorrow's project.
