Compressor install locations (Pictures Please)

If you mounted a air compressor in your 4th Gen, it would be awesome to see some picts. So, show me what you got.

I have a ARB Air Compressor (CKMA12) that I plan to shove into my 08 V6 SR5. It is the medium size one. I have been poking around a bit in the engine bay looking for the best place to mount it. I am leaning to mounting it vertically in front of the passenger side headlight. It looks like it could also work by the anti-lock brake system. If you don't plan on doing a second battery ever, the area above the passenger wheel well has tones of room.

I mounted the same compressor in my 4Runner (V6). It's mounted horizontally behind the passenger headlight. No problems in that location.

I've been trying to sort out what I wanted for OBA but if the CKMA12 fits where you say it fits, then I might have to switch gears...

That's about the only place I have left for accessories right now.

Anyone running a tank too? What size and where did you put it?

My install looks just like [MENTION=127401]Krayziekid[/MENTION] (same unit as well). I've got a V8. I'll tell ya, it's tight. I had a mount made by a guy here on the forum. It's up sort of high. Level with the airbox. It makes getting to the dipstick just a little harder. I get my oil changed at valvoline (gasp[emoji50]) and they usually have trouble finding the stick. I had the mount made with a tank in mind but then decided against the tank but didn't consider mounting the compressor different. If you're not going to do a tank, I'd mount it vertical with the filters up. Provides easier access to items adjacent.

100% agree with all of the above. V8 is tightttttt. Got my mount from Bandi, who is active on here and the FJ Forums.

I was going to get a tank too, but I ended up not doing that.

Mounted in the same spot but I bolted down a battery box then mounted compressor to battery box. This allows meet to throw hose line and power cables inside as well and it keeps it contained from all the elements

Same all around. [MENTION=125603]bandi[/MENTION] mount. Super tight. Wanted tank but based on how tight, skipped and don't think I can do one now based on the design change Bandi did to fit the unit. I don't know that anything smaller than a gallon is worth it and the gallon tank would be too tight. I figure you could remote locate the tank, but where? Maybe in front of the airbox? Else a long skinny tank on a frame rail.

Next what do you need the tank for. My compressor is for airing tires on the truck, trailer, and motorcycles that I might trailer. I keep considering an air on board setup like 2Way Air - On Demand Central Tire I...p/B00P2YK89W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_YXYXybY9SMKR7

The second one is new from my searches a year+ ago. I ended up making a hose that can go around the truck with a QD spur for each tire. Allows for even inflating and deflating of all four tires at once. Sales a OBA setups but with less cost and can be used with any compressor.

I just took a look at your website, lots of into on the MV50, thanks for the write up.

I hear some real hit/miss stuff with those MV50 pumps so seems like you beefing it up helps a lot... I like the price and don't mind modding but I prefer to not have to.

I've been shopping a lot of Viair right now but this thread has be reconsidering the ARB if it fits behind the passenger headlight.

You'll have to excuse the dirty engine bay. My 4Runner actually gets run on the trials unlike [MENTION=117408]Oneluv13T4R[/MENTION] 's pavement princess with a detailed engine bay!

Unless you're running impact tools, the tank isn't worth the space and trouble. For inflating tires you're limited by the flow rate of the compressor, and the tank won't improve things at all except for the first 15 seconds or so.

If you mount it vertically, you might be able to get a bigger unit in that space. I had to orient the unit diagonally to maintain a small amount of clearance in two spots. I was pleasantly surprised by the compact size of the compressor for the modest performance (and price) and the fact that it fit in that spot. I wanted it in the engine bay and I didn't want it behind the intake so I can add a second battery later if needed. I fabricated an isolated mount to reduce vibration and it gave me a little more clearance. Of course, that compressor isn't going to flow the amount of air the CKMTA12 compressor will, but for the size, price, and reasonable performance I've been happy.

Modded MV-50, in the same spot as everyone else. It's okay, I'd like to upgrade one of these days. It's good when you're in a bind though. I've managed to set a few beads with it.

I really like the idea a small tank, like a 0.5 or 1.0 gallon on the truck. It acts as a small capacitor when moving from tire to tire. Awesome if you don't want to run a open air chuck.

Plus I just like the way filling off the tank feels...the bigger the better too. A hell of a lot better than filling off a portable with an open air chuck that's for sure.

I know its not needed for tire fill but ill chock it up to one of those small luxuries that just make having air a little nicer.

I probably won't use air-tools... but I think a small blast of compressed air is pretty useful now and again. Perhaps blow off some riding goggles, clean some camera gear... you get the idea. A little air goes a long way sometimes.

I've been thinking of getting this little guy to see if I can find a nice little nook or cranny to cram him in.
