Concerns re: Shrockworks Bumper?

Looks like a really good, well-designed bumper (for 2014 Runner). I want one, but I have a couple of concerns. Maybe you can put my mind at rest?

1. This bumper appears to block a major part of the airflow to the radiator. Any problems with engine over-heating? (I know it has two holes in the lower panel, but is that enough?)

2. The bumper is rather high, which is good for approach angle, but does that not put it above the bumper of the car you are about to rear-end? Is that height street legal?

Am I worried about nothing? - just living up to my forum name?

2. Don't rear end people. Laws vary widely by location, you'll need to figure that out for your area.

I can't imagine it blocks enough air to cause overheating, especially in Canada!

Bumper height will probably be a function of local laws varying by state (or province in your case). Here in 'Merica state laws range from absurd in the northeast, where from what I hear you can barely put lifts on vehicles anymore to basically no restrictions, ie. Texas, Wyoming, Utah.

Mine doesn't run any hotter than it did prior to installing my Shrockworks bumper. Lead time is a problem; I've been waiting 3 months for skids.

Heh, I won't tell you how long I waited for my ARB...

Being in Canada also be aware that the shipping costs will be high and remember to factor in brokerage, GST, etc.

Rear ending people is illegal regardless of bumper type here in the states.
Airflow is not an issue. I drive the all over the mountains in Colorado and have noted no issues with cooling.

They do in fact have a high lead time but the product is amazing hand built to order art work. It isn't mass produced in a factory. Patience pays off here.

legitimate concerns you need to consider:
your air bag will not deploy as it would with a plastic bumper which is a deal breaker for some.

The headlight trim pieces are a little heavy for offroad use. Some have used them without issue, but frankly it's a cosmetic piece that simply needs to be made out of plastic or possibly fiberglass.
If you end up getting one cut up your factory bumper for the trim pieces and call it a day.

From my understanding Airbag deployment is based on a few sensor readings and the airbag sensor. Removing the factory bumper and that first "crush zone" would actually make your airbag sensor MORE likely to trigger with a steel bumper.

I do recall that ARB supposedly "tested" the airbag deployment while Sheockworks did not. Maybe this is what you are referring to.

If someone came across the center line and hit me head on or clipped me, I'd want my Shrockworks bumper vs anything else available.

Shameless plug here, but have you considered the hybrid bumper we sell? It holds a winch, shackles, and light bar with a hoop. It costs about half of the full bumpers or even less with the current group buy. It also only weighs about 65lbs. If you join the group buy I can also guarantee your bumper shipment will be measured in weeks, not months.

The other members have pretty much nailed it on the head, though. The airbags still deploy and might even be more sensitive.

The ARB is "airbag approved". It has crush cans between the bumper and the frame so the airbags are less likely to deploy in a minor collision. That is how it was explained to me and it's all I know about it other than seeing the crush cans when I installed mine.

I ordered mine some months ahead(before Winter), just let it go and forgot about it. One day I got a phone call:"Your bumper is here!" And I was super happy, no complains about the "forgotten" lead time whatsoever.
