Console used to read text messages - How to fix?

When I first purchased my 4Runner it used to display and/or provide the option to read text messages to me. It no longer does this and I can't find any options under setting to adjust it. I have the same phone and nothing has changed. The only thing that happens now is a screen prompt appears announcing I have a message.

Anyone know where the setting may be for this or what potentially could have happened?

1. it will only show the text while stopped
2. if will read it out loud if your moving and you select read/play
3. did you change phones?

barring the above, is your message history over say 500/1000?

Happened to me too. Simple fix, delete old messages from your phone, clean it up, and the system will start to see them again. I think the system tries to download to many messages from the phone and times out. Clean it up and it should work.

Also, if you have an Iphone, make sure the notifications are turned on.

I have not been presented with an option to read or have it read to me, just a statement saying I have a text. This happens regardless if I'm moving or stopped. I have very few messages and I have tried deleting them, I do have the same phone (Android).

In Android, under the Settings for your text messages, you can set it to delete old messages. I think it defaults to 100 messages per conversation which is too high. I've been slowly lowering it and right now have it set to 50 messages per conversation and 20 MMS per conversation. It's been working so far.

Will try that, but I have only two messages with three replies and it still is not working. Any other ideas. Are there any setting within the hear-unit?

other option, delete the phone from the head unit, turn off the truck, then delete it from the phone, restart phone.

then re-pair both.
