Awesome! My favorite mod so far, simple as it is :)

A silly amount of work for a single little fuse, for a feature that should be built into all Toyotas. But at least it isn't hard to do.

So I'm curious though... and this is my inexperience with off-roading asking. What's wrong with VSC traction control? Why would one want a bypass?

Sometimes the traction control will kick in preemptively. While this may be beneficial for everyday driving and maybe accelerating from a stop in wet conditions while off road it can stop you from accelerating out of a tough situation, because the engine power gets killed because it sensed a slight lack of traction thus not letting me throttle out.
 
Anybody experience battery drain even with nothing plugged in? easy to do just don't want a dead battery... #bringingthisbackfromthedead
 
Thanks for this- I did it to my 2001 works great.

Now I am wondering what the max amps I can draw continuously. I am not sure what gauge wire is used OEM. I have a 65W max ham radio that draws "14A or less" via the manual (Kenwood TM-281A).

The radio does cut off from low current if I am on high power, in gear, and stopped- but fine when in N or moving. Current drop when moving is almost none according to a meter.

Just curious what the max continuous safe amps to draw might be through the lighter.

2013 Trail Edition

Again has anyone done this on a 5th Gen, I have a 2013 Trail edition and I suspect the fuse/relay block under the dash is not the same, but the general idea would be, does anyone have a wiring digram/information for the 2013 Trail.

Would love to verify the steps and if it works on 5th gen before taking everything apart.

Just did this to my 08 limited. Very easy to do. Connectors are 16-14 AWG vinyl M disconnect at Fry's electronics. Used 14-3 black wire from Romex piece I had laying around. :banana::banana:

Two mods in and loving my 4Runner. Addicted to this forum. So much info. Thanks to all who have blazed the trail ahead of the rest of us and posted here. Makes life very easy.

Well after 6 years subscribing to this thread, I finally had a reason to do this.

My experience is that it took about 10 minutes total and didn't have any problems. I have a 2007 limited and the mirror compass didn't stay on after the change.
 
Any 5th gen done this mod and know where the right relay is at and how to get to it?



I used a low profile mini fuse tap to isolate the circuit at the fuse box then a SwitchPro to back-feed power when I want it, independent of the acc circuit or in conjunction with it (configured via the SwitchPro). A bit overkill but works perfect and highly configurable.
