Constant 12V power outlets

Which existing wires did you use on the existing 12V outlet?
I just pulled the top of the console off and spliced into the wires to the power plug in the console....does that make sense?

Not hard at all.......just go slowly

I would think that if you do it this way you can't use both power plugs at the same time. Right? If you try to use both, then I would think a fuse would blow.

I suppose you are correct, but you "could" blow the fuse by using just one......if you draw too many amps. Just be careful what you plug in and you will be fine. In my case, XM radio, Garmin GPS and cell charger will not blow the fuse.

I have an 03, I did this mod and I don't have any trouble with the compass, but after removing the relay I have a flashing light on my dash, the icon is a car with a key over it, It makes me think its a "Your key is still in the ignition" light..

Anyways, everything works, doors lick, anti-theft, etc.. just this icon flashing on my dash now.

Anyone know exactly what that light is and if I can disable it and keep the always-on 12v outlets?

Edit: I should have mentioned that the light goes off when the truck is running, so its really not a big deal, just sort of one of those "non-pefect" annoyances.

I think that's normal, mine has always done that- it usually stays on for a couple minutes after startup,

I know that the procedure will be same, but the relay is not in the same spot anyone know where the 12v outlet relay is on a 5th gen?

has anyone had the annoying low tire light come on since doing the 12v mod?

Yes, but these are 2 totally unrelated items on different circuits. I think it's coincidence on your part. Do what the TPMS light is telling you: add air to the low tire(s); don't forget the spare.

No Pics

I'm trying to switch my 12V sockets to constant power, and this appears to be the go-to article (thanks), but I can't see the pictures. Is there something amiss with my settings, or can someone give me a hand on how to access the illustrations? Thanks.

1 of my first mods

Just did this mod.:thumb3::thumb3:

I have the accessory power-socket-plus-cigarette-lighter unit (got it for the extra power outlet and I use the ashtray, modified, to hold my cellphone) which makes this mod even more useful, because now my 12v sockets are always on, but I still have the cigarette-lighter outlet switched. The cigarette-lighter outlet is on a different circuit/fuse.

I wire tied the unused relay upside-down to the jumper wire, so I know where it is.

5th Gen?

Like a previous poster, I'm curious if these mods are exactly the same on a 5th Gen. The electrical stuff is a little out of my comfort zone, so I want to be 100% sure this works on my 2011 Limited before I get in over my head!

Thanks in advance, and thanks for the easy to follow instructions!

That makes 3 for the 5th Gen, has anyone tried it yet out there?? i'm hoping to get it done this weekend.

Thanks
