Cooling System Flush/Refill

My 2010 TE just turned 9 years of ownership and 54,000 miles .
Is it ready for a cooling system flush and refill with new coolant ?

100K is the recommended interval, but I did mine recently at 55K and 6 years. The old coolant looked OK, but I feel better about it because I plan to keep it a long time.

I am in the school of drain and refill. Had a power steering pump crack with a flush.

And 9 year old truck with 54k. Dang it’s brand new.

2010 with 54000. I need to stop driving mine or something. My 17 has like 40k on it already. Lol. I would do the flush since it’s been 9 years. It won’t hurt anything.

Drain, Flush with distilled water, drain, fill with Toyota coolant.

I wouldn't put a chemical flush in it, too harmful and not needed for with this low of mileage.

I flush mine with distilled water. Fill it up, take a drive to get it warmed up and make sure the thermostat opens. Run heater. Drain and fill with Toyota coolant and you're done.

At 100k drain, put on new hoses, fill with distilled water, flush, drain, and fill with Toyota coolant.

My F150 daily driver has 400k miles. I've changed the coolant every 50k miles and hoses+coolant every 100k and the radiator passages still look like new. Never used chemical flush. Distilled water is $0.99 a gallon and OEM coolant is cheap. It may sound like overkill but its cheap insurance to never have cooling issues.

No Distilled Water Flush

I would not use distilled water to flush the system as you will never have a true required ratio of water/coolant since some water will remain in the system. I just drained the coolant including engine block drain plugs and filled it with Toyota OEM coolant, already pre mixed. Easy Peasy.

The system won't retain much water and it's not THAT critical. If you end up with a 45/55 mix that's fine. Plus this guy lives in South Florida so freezing's not really an issue.

I just did mine at 100k. It's very straight forward. I did a drain and refill with OEM coolant.

I recommend getting Toyota OEM coolant from the dealer or elsewhere.
