Has anyone considered replacing the engine cooling fan with an electric fan on a 4th Gen? I have the aluminum block V6 and I'm thinking it would help lower the underhood temperature after you stop the engine. Any thoughts? Is there a preferred brand and/or brand to avoid?

I also never had a problem with my Toyota. When I was stuck in traffic on a 100 degree day, the temp gauge didn't even budge. Mine stays smack in the middle and never budges. On a Mercedes ML-430, I remember it usually ran around 80 degrees Celsius. On a hot summer day, it would move up to around 100 degrees Celsius. I remember the first time it happened, I was panicing watching the needle inch up. But then again, it is a Mercedes. :

Don't read too much into reading the gauges in most newer cars. Those gauges are stabilized. If the temperature is close to normal, they read normal. The temperature has to change a whole lot for the needle to move at all.

I don't know about the new V6 but the V8 as installed in the 4Runner is just about bullet proof. There is no need to engineer anything in the way of changes to the oil or cooling system.

If you are looking for a little cushion for the cooling system try a bottle of Red Line's WaterWetter. It's simple, just lower the coolant level just a little bit and pour it in. Look for more info at Redline.com. We've used it in severe applications and it works just like advertised.

I would not touch your engine cooling. Toyota makes a bullet proof vehicle, if you break it you own it
