Cooper Discoverer HTP 275 55 20 on 2010 Limited 4 Runner

Just curious to see if anybody is running the Cooper Discoverer HTP 275 55 20's on their 5th Gen T4Rs. According to the Discount Tire website, they say it will fit fine, and when I call they say it should not be a problem, but the tire specs say this fits a 7.5" rim, and we all know that the Limited 4 Runners have a 7" rim. Just want my family to be safe.

Any input is appreciated.

I use to have Nitto Terragrappler 275/55/R20 on original 7" rims, they do fit and I ran them for about 1000 miles, no issues what so ever. But every time I looked at those tires squeezed onto those 7" rims, I just couldn't feel confident. I ended up switching to ProComp 9" rims, which made me feel way much better.

If your upmost concern is for your family to be safe I would go with manfacturer's specs instead of opinions from an internet forum.

I made a list (sorry, it's at the office) I went on tire rack and typed in that measurement and 36 or so prospects popped up. I then went through one by one and jotted down the ones that spec'ed out as fitting a 7" rim. There were several.
Doesn't take that long. Or, I will grab it when I go in.

I wouldn't/didn't do it. Just like 1engineer said, if your concern is your family's safety, do it the right way. an extra $1000 spent on rims will out weight thousands of "possible" damages, monetary and non monetary.

That's just my philosophy :shrug:. There are others on here that have done it and not problems so far. Though many have made the switch even after running bigger tires on stock 20's.

Do it right the first time. Also have to decide what you are trying to accomplish. If you're doing it just for looks, you can actually get some Spidertraxx wheel spacers (optional) and go a tad wider on your tires and you are done. I went on trails and OHVs with the stock Geolanders and they did their job and came out in one piece. But if you are planning to do more aggressive off-roading, then it just make sense to spend $600 more for wider wheels and appropriate tires that you will not regret getting. Another factor you may want to keep in mind is you will take a MPG hit. I'm lucky to get more than 16 city/20 hwy with my LT's.
