Wall o text just to say I'm happy with em, lol
I've had these on for a couple of weeks now and so far, I'm happy with them.
I'm running 40psi for now. I've played with the air pressure a bit, tried chalking them, etc. They ride fine on the highway without much noise.
They got their first real test yesterday on our way home from a quick trip to WV. I initially had thought about going back to Blackwater Falls, but decided we would take a more southernly route.
I found a small town named Helvetia and off we went. I let google maps route it for us.
I wasn't too worried when the gps had us turn onto a gravel road, it said it was 1.7 miles to the next turn. LoL
About .2mi in it turned into a dirt/leaf covered road. Still wide and easily passable. You could tell that it was driven some. At .6mi the fun began, lol.
The road changed into what I would call a jeep trail (forgive me). Much more narrow, ruts here and there, stuff you wouldn't drive a car through.
At .9mi the real shit started lololol. Off camber rocks angled toward trailside trees, ruts on both sides of the track that were way deep, 1.5ft deep mud holes, the whole kit and kaboodle, lol.
Keep in mind I hadn't aired down at all. I figured it was gonna be just a simple gravel road.
We slogged it out and kept going. I was a little worried about clearance on some of the spots. I'm lifted at about 3" but still have the oem trail running boards on.
Things started looking up as we gained elevation and got out of the mud. After than, other than some simple obstacles, and having to move a tree trunk out of the trail, things were not bad. It looked like we started to come out in someones backyard, lol.....turned out that it just dumped us back out onto a paved road.
And of course, as soon as we hit pavement, the gps stopped working.
All of that text to say that the maxx's worked admirably well. I mean REALLY well. Slick rock, goopy mud, sticky mud, gravel, wet leaves. These didn't slip AT ALL. Not only that but they cleaned out quickly. I'm a fan.
The downsides I've noted: My tire/alignment shop had to use a fair amount of weight to get them balanced. I wasn't too surprised by that as I've seen other guys note the same thing.
I also noted that my 4r seems to wander a bit more than before. I'm running JBAs high caster UCAs and my caster is well over 3. It's not crazy, but I notice it from time to time. As I put more miles on I'll figure out if it's the road surface or just me being overly critical. The 4r does pull a tad to the right (I'm going back to the shop next week to have them check that), so that might account for some of it.
I've run lots of tires on 4x4s. BFG ATs, Cooper AT3s, Duratracs, etc. So far I'm thinking I might have found my new favorite.
