Copper Head Gasket & A long shot idea...:deadhorse:?

Hey y'all! I've been doing some exchange work in a shop that specializes in land cruisers. Believe it or not the 3.slo isn't the only HG muncher in the Toyota family.... They had 2 more pull up with blown HGs this afternoon....After pulling the heads, I noticed they had copper HGs and inquired about them to one of the gurus there as to the reasons/advantages(if any) and if it were a possibility to make one(I've never seen any available for 4funners). He said " You get more compression" and durability was implied. Hmmm I say... I wonder how/where you could acquire some or the material to make your own....he didn't have an answer but I'm not beyond digging... I have a 3.slo and have considered all of my options for upgrades but in the long run I think you can make a 3.slo into a 3.GO without the wiring etc. headaches. I've seen a few threads of people building up the 3.0 and from the sounds of it you can make them just as powerful if not more than the 3.4. Would I be on the right track to bore one out .50+ sleeve it, port/polish the heads, oversized valves, ground cams, performance crank, copper HG, studs, headers, straight flow exhaust, etc? Saw the thread/videos for the turbo mod...thinking that might be cool too...thanks in advance for the feedback!

To make a 3.slow equal or faster than a 3.4 is possible I am sure but how much money are you going to spend and how much time will it take. If you are doing all the work yourself then maybe it won't be "outrageously expensive" but if your paying a shop, good luck.

Your better bet if 3.4 performance or better is what your looking for is to swap a 3.4 in and build from there. It is one of the easier swaps from what I have read.

Now if you just want to find a way to do this with a 3.0 then that's on you. Just know that they are called 3.slows for a reason.

It's like 22re even though there are several easy motor swaps for more power some people insist on trying to build a "race" 22re motor.

Building motors is a checkbook race more than anything else
