30-31's are not 285's....
if you mean 265's / 31's, then sure
if you mean 285's / 33's, then I wish you best of luck![]()
I just meant a tire thats 30-31 inches in diameter, 285 (millimeters?) in width, Maybe I'm wrong I'm new to truck speak.
Idk I was thinking if I went down in diameter and wider maybe they wouldn't rub
dont listen to them... i ran 285s for a long time with no lift... will you rub, yes very slightly at full stuff and at full lock, will it hurt anything no. -now with that being said i have a 97 SR5, if you are a limited 4runner or a sport edition then i can not confirm that you can run a 285 without a lift, but if you are a base or a SR5 you most certainly can

there read through my build thread it talks about it and shows pics of the clearance.

Huh? My wife has a pair of extremely worn 285s on our '99 with a 2 inch lift, and she rubs the fender liner just pulling out of the driveway. She can't wheel it until she gets smaller tires because at full stuff she's tearing the fenders off in front and in the rear.
Or would it require extensive cutting and trimming? What if I ran wheel spacers?
it works with 17 wheels, thats all i can say. i did no trimming other than to hammer over my pinch welds. the 17" wheel probably has a lot to do with it, being as though it will push the radius of the sidewall further out from the hub.
now i am running spacers, 1.25". im only doing that now because with the lift, my front UCAs rub on the inner sidewall of the tire, but thats with 3.25" of lift up front.
when i was running 285s on my runner before my lift i was using "old" 99 tall coils, so i figure i as at about stock height, maybe .5" higher than 97 sr5. i ran like this for almost two years, wheeled the truck and daily drove it. never had a single issue. 285s will fit with a stock wheel and no lift. now lifting might create problems with the UCAs and rubbing, because lifting an IFS effectively narrows your track..., and so while daily driving with a lift and 285s i could see where someone could rub bad if they were using stock OE wheels.
right now with my lift(3.25") and the 1.25" spacers my tires(285 BFG km1) are just at the edge of my fenders, just peeking out ever so slightly. it looks good and id guess puts the tires about .5-.75" out fruther than a stock stance. i now have zero rub issues and full range of unobstructed movement in both steering and wheel travel or any combination of the two
