Couple fog light questions

I'm looking at adding a few (2) offroad lights to my 97' Limited in the future.

I have a few questions.

-The headlight stalk on my 97 does not have the switch for foglights since it did not come with them. Is the stalk w/foglights (as seen here Standard CBS 1007 Fog Light Switch | eBay) a direct replacement? Meaning can I remove the old headlight stalk and replace it with this one without causing any damage?

Are the 97's wired for foglights?

I'm in the same boat.

From what I can find the 96-98 4runner fog lamps were a dealer installed option made by hella. The specific kits are no longer made however they are near identical to the hella 450/500/550 lights. The OEM ones were reportedly about 3"x5"

According to some of the other threads there are apparantly factory mounting points for them in the lower valence but it may require trimming of the lower grill.

The fog light switch for the 96-98 fog lights was a switch mounted in one of the blanks to the left of the steering wheel on the dash, and not stalk mounted like with the newer factory fogs from 99-02. As such I would have to assume there is no existing wiring for the fog lights. Most people just order a foglight dash switch from a tacoma or similar as most all of the toyota switch pockets are the same size.

If you look at the last page of my build I had the same desire to have the fog light switch on the stalk and ended up finding a factory stalk with fog switch for less than $50. I would have to look back to find the part number.

It was a direct pull and replace, and add a relay and fog lights work correctly!

The 99-02 have a different foglight setup, iirc it was a factory option not a dealer installed option and were prewired for fogs. It is unlikely the spiral cable from a 96-98 has the nessessary wire/connector for the fog light, but I could be mistaken.

I guess if one really wanted they could get the spiral cable and stalk off of a 99+ 4runner and swap it over then tap into the wire from there. But thats assuming none of the other connectors have changed or else you could be looking at swapping out the cruise and or wiper switch as well. Personally I would just go with the dash switch and avoid the headache.

Darn so it's not a plug and play type deal. Bummer.

If I come across a 99-02 4Runner in the junkyard I might pull the parts but for now I'll pass.
