Couple modification questions.

Hey guys, I will be purchasing a 4th gen 4Runner in the new year and had a few questions about lifts/tires.

I'll want to run a 305/70/17 tire, which option will provide the most lift, the cornfed 3/2 or the OME kit? (there is only one OME kit for the 4th gen right?)

I know that regardless of which lift I choose I'll need to do some minor trimming which I don't mind as long as you can't see the evidence without poking your head in the wheelwell :)

I'll use ATX wheels with 4.5" backspacing and spidertrax spacers as well to get an agressive stance and maximize clearance.

Also, in regards to purchasing, how do I know if I have the Xreas? I'll want to stay away from it. Is it only the sports that come equipped with it?

I've also read that the V-8's are full time 4WD, as in not REAL 4X4, anyone care to shed some light on this? Is there a rear limited slip diff option I should be looking for? Any other purchasing tips would be great, I'll want the V-8.

A lot of questions for my first post I know but any help to shoot me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

the V8 Sports are both full time and real 4WD. :reddance:

By this you mean that it will be 2WD but when it detects slippage it will automatically lock the center diff and provide power to the front? Just a little confused as I've seen the button to the left of the steering wheel that has the "X" over the center diff, unlocks the center diff so you can use 4hi and 4lo on dry pavement? The system is quite a bit different than my pathfinder's manual t-case, so I appreciate the understanding.

All Sport Editions came with X-REAS. It was optional on the Limited. You have X-REAS if you have a hydraulic line coming out of the shocks. There is also a canister for the X-REAS on each frame rail near the B-pillar.

The V8 has a full time 4WD system (same as the V6, except the V6 can be placed in 2WD) meaning it can be operated on any surface conditions including dry pavement. The TORSEN center diff is the one that can alter the distribution of power to each axle from the normal 30/70, front/rear. The button to the left of the steering column is the center differential lock. Locking the center diff will distribute power 50/50 to both front and rear axles.

Exactly, the V8's full time 4wd is as "real" as 4WD gets. It is not a"reactive" like the front wheel drive biased systems in the CRV, RAV4, etc.

Thank you and Uneek. So all 4th gens are equipped with the torsen center diff? And the button to the left of the wheel locks the center diff providing 50/50 front and rear, once this happens, it should only be operated on slippery surfaces such as 4 lo conditions correct?

Also was wondering if there's an e-locker option for 4th gens, or do they all come with LSD rears?
