Couple of quick questions?!

Hi, I'm a long time lurker, first time poster.

I've just recently picked up a 2004 Hilux Surf SSR-X as my new daily drive and lovin it. But being that the instruction manual is Japanese (I'm British) I'm having a few problems working out everything. Can anyone point me in the direction of a pdf or something similar? I guess the 4runner/surf can't be that much different, so the manual for the4Runner would apply to the Surf...

Also, does anyone know if it is possible to replace the grey plastic on the rear tailgate (not sure what you'd call it over there! )

it looks like the rear bumper is comprised of three parts: the body-colored edge sections, the silver centre piece and then a grey plastic section. I'm looking to replace just the grey plastic section if possible.

And one more, does anyone know what this bracket is for:

it looks like there's supposed to be something attached to it, but I can't figure out what.

Any help much appreciated.

in my 4runner the gray and silver are one piece... and it is pretty much impossible to remove it with out damaging the clips and hence replacing that whole set up... this is per my body shop...

i can confirm however that the gray and silver pieces that you refer to are only one piece...

I used to live in Yokohama, we used to go to the local junk yard. A friend of mine took me to this one place that would salvage all kinds of parts off of junked cars to export all over the world. You might want to check that out, good luck.

Thanks for the replies.

I did some digging and found a .pdf file with English language instructions. Seems to be a few electrics/options differences between the 4runner/Surf, but on the whole they're pretty much the same.

On my car the previous owner put several deep scratches in the plastic grey upper section (3) and I was hoping I would be able to just replace that piece if possible. But if they're connected in a way that will make replacing one difficult, then I guess I will have to replace both 2 & 3.


CJ3Flyr: Do you mean section 3? If so, then all the pre-2005 R4unners I've seen over here have that piece.

khunk: Thanks for the advice. Yokohama isn't that too far from where I am.


Any ideas on the bracket underneath the steering column?

Awesome! I need to look for part#3. I'd like that area to be better protected.
