Cover for storing outside - your recommendations

I'm going to have to store my 4Runner outside for the next year or two.
Any recommendations on a good quality cover?

I was actually looking into this as well. I have heard good things about Covercraft. Custom-fit covers usually run for about $500 while a universal is a little less than half of that.
 
Really depends on what you want to spend. I have 2 Covercraft custom made covers for 2 of my collector cars. Basically just dust covers at best considering they are also garage kept. I think they make a NOAH series that is for outdoor kept vehicles. I've heard the thick covers tend to not breathe as well and can trap moisture, potentially causing issues.
 
My personal opinion is that the only cover you need is two coats of wax every 4 months or so.

My black factory paint is still black after 17 years because of this. I've owned it since early 2002.

I see you are in SF. If you cover it there will be salt and crud that will get under the cover and the winds will slowly scratch away the clear coat.

Wax won't protect from the acid damage that bird crap causes. Good point about the cover trapping debris. There is no real substitute for a garage I guess.
 
Wax will protect against bird crap. My truck has been a victim of birds. I've lived within 10 miles of the ocean since 2002 and I've had the same method the whole time.

Damn, what wax are you using? I'm using Meguiar's NXT and I occasionally use their Ultimate Quik Detailer. Still no match for the bird crap etching. The only way for it to really not do damage is to get it off quick which does not always happen.
 
Well all I mean is that I have no paint blisters due to bird crap and my paint has been "bird crapped" many many times since 2002. I've left it uncovered for 7 months in 2003 and 9 months in 2005 due to deployment. Each time I waxed her up before leaving.

I guess my statement would be this ... If you wax your truck several times a year and wash it at least once a month AND you start with a descent amount of clear coat you shouldn't get paint blisters.

There is always the possibility our SoCal birds just have non-acidic crap LoL.
 
OP - you think the cover will survive high winds or will you use larger anchors? I've looked at some of those but am afraid it won't hold up in a 70-80 mph downdrafts we have regularly in my area.
