Yep, mine caught a rock right below the peek-a-boo window for the VIN and cracked all the way to the edge, about 14 inches long. The windshield itself was $575 from Toyota, came to $680 installed by Speedy Glass.Not even a year old yet and the passenger side of my windshield has about a 6 inch crack in it.
Curious if anyone has had a cracked windshield yet and how much did it cost to replace it.

Did you have to pay that? I know different states have different laws with that stuff. One of the few things I like about MA is that windshields are covered under your insurance at no cost.
that's one of the first things i noticed the thinner glass on the 4runner. Is this the same on the previous generations? My 02' Nissan has thicker glass and some a--hole whacked the rear passenger window with a brick 3-4 times before being scared away by a neighbor. All that was left was a huge scratch and hasn't cracked.

Yup, mine cracked also....I went to work during a pretty good storm, leaving my fairly warm garage, and after 8 hours the windshield was cracked across the length of it. The crack was about 6 inches from the bottom of the windshield and spanned almost the entire glass. I have glass coverage on my insurance policy so I just took it in and got it changed out. My only thought is that maybe there was moisture trapped and the below freezing temps caused it to crack.

That's interesting! The FJ Cruiser has the same problem, at least the earlier production runs did - broken/cracked windshields.
That was attributed to the fact that the FJ's windshield is almost (if not actually) 90 degrees vertical.:wtf:

My '11 Ltd caught two nice rock chips the first week. I knew going into it that it was going to be a rock magnet.

They are not too bad...I priced an OEM one last year at Toyotapartsales.com for $340 plus tax when I thought I was going to have to replace mine last summer.$475 is the msrp .
I had a rock hit that sounded like a 22 and left a starburst about an inch wide . It actually left a nick on the inside pane it hit so hard and I thought for sure it would have to be replaced. Had a mobile windshield pro guy come out and he did a repair for $40 and it's still lasting. I can still see it a little bit but it's low on the pass side.
He wanted $150 labor if I was going to replace it with OEM and would subtract the $40 for the repair if it continued to starburst after his repair.

Mine got popped a couple of weeks ago. It seems Toyota is using thinner glass like it does on Lexus. My 04 4Runner took so many rocks and never broke, but my 07 IS 350 busted on the first one. If mine does have to be replaced I want something a lot thicker.
I have the heated windshield feature for my wiper blades I guess. I wonder if those heating elements are part of the windshield?

My insurance company (I live in PA) will repair a chip for free regardless of where it is in the windshield. If the window cannot be repaired and needs replaced, then I have to pay the deductible.

I'm almost timid to respond, so far mine is doing well. (Knock on wood, 2x4s, plywood, old wooden chest..you get the idea..) I did notice that it does seem more exposed than my 4th gen, but I think the sloped hood on my 4th gen actually helped. This new truck is like driving an armored car. I am also worried about the possibility, but theres really little you can do about it. I avoid gravel roads, following cement trucks, anything that remotely looks dangerous. lol.

Got a crack in the lower driver side corner from a rock chip while driving home this weekend. I think the heated garage did me in.

The 4th generation 4Runner also has had more than it's share of cracking windshields.
I consider myself lucky that, so far, I have only replaced the windshield once.
Some other 4th Gen owners here on the forums have not been as lucky.
In my case, I took a stone hit at highway speeds and by the time I got home the crack was almost 2 feet long.
Too bad that the 5th Gen appears to have inherited this problem as well.
