Craigslist find in Chicago area

Damn. That sucks. I wonder how much a new frame would run. I find it odd that these frames rot out so bad. They are E coated and way better than my 77 Jeep CJ. The CJ has some minor-moderate frame rust, but it was also 40 years old. I guess location has something to do with it.

Typical CL bullshit, i have about a 20% success of hearing back on any CL inquiry .
I have a love/hate relationship with CL. I love being able to sell my random junk on there but you're right, 4 out of 5 people you never hear back from. Even worse as a seller.
I have a 99 that I bought for my son... Car fax says it spent its whole life in Wisconsin... Not a spot of rust on the frame!!!
Now that being said I just picked up a 98 VERY CHEAP in the chicago area and it needs work...
I have it a a fabrication shop right now and they are boxing in parts of the frame... Its not as bad as I originally thought. most frame rust can be fixed and its not that expensive. Look at jeep guys... they have frame repair kits they can buy...
I ordered new rockers from wolf steel in Canada and will replace them in the next couple weeks. Now you factor in the $800 I paid for the 98 4runner and the cost of the rust repair, new tires, and some front end parts and I come out ahead. Mind you I will be doing most of it myself except for the frame repair (my welder is not up to the task)
I can see ones point on frame rust... it is not something that you want to see... if it was a uni bodied car I would walk away... but I have seen enough frames repaired in my days that a little rust repair dose not scare me.

Oh by the way... I Bought the 98 (green one) on Craigslist... he was asking 2k, I got it for $800
The silver 99 I got through the dealership I used to work at. They really didn't know what they had there... all toyotec suspension, fox shocks, addicted off road bumper, Level 8 wheels, AEM intake, Winch ect ect... picked that one up for 3100 out the door!!!
There are deals out there... just got find them.

I just got off the phone with the guy. He says the frame looks good (but no pictures yet). asked him why he's selling and he said "I just got a new honda pilot and don't need the truck anymore." I'm in colorado also, he said he'd be cool with shipping the truck. I'll let you guys know what I find.

I'm not going to wire him any money. Guy seems like an honest guy to me. Has been able to answer all my questions, willing to take and send pictures at my request. The ad is pretty detailed and has too many pictures to be a scam. I don't see why it would be a scam.

After living in Chicago for 10 years. Sellers can all "sound" honest.
Buyer beware. I say if anyone is willing to send a complete stranger wads of money with zero assurances then... They may be disappointed by the scum of the earth.
You just never know. Especially in a bigger city. Scam central and they're always looking for a sucker. Not calling anyone a sucker, just saying have someone look at it in person before you give your hard earned cash away.
All sellers in Chicago I dealt with said "frame is perfect" only to see holes as big as your arm in person.

Need friend for a day
I found a similar deal north of Chicago at a place close to the Wisconsin border. Unfortunately, I live in Kansas because of the military and it does not seem smart to make the 10 hour drive to look or buy a plane ticket to get there. My plan is to see if any of you knowledgeable Gents would be willing to be a friend for me and go check it out? I would try to work the deal over the phone with the seller and just send them payment info or whatever via email or some other means. Is this a good idea and could anyone deal some advice for me?
