Fj springs?

Well just got a nail in one of my dynapro atm 265 65 17 tires and since they are at the wear bar and starting to dry crack they wont patch it...

my 05 v6 4wd sport i have bilstein 5100 on all 4 corners and it is leveled in the front.

I don't have enough money to do a full 2.5 MT Lift for a little while so I am debating on doing wheel spacers and a 1.5" inch body lift and putting some 285 70 17 tires on and do the body mount chop for now . Think they would fit?

or should I just plug it with Tire plug by myself and call it a day?

Figure i have money for tires and could fork out an extra $400 to do a good upgrade to the 285 then why not... rather than just doing 265 70 17 go big or go home right?

I would plug it and put it on the rear, but be cautious until you can move forward on what you want to do.

You think 285 70 17 will fit with bilstein level and 1.5" body lift. Stock sport rims.

I know i will have to trim the fender liners and bumpers but wondering if i will have problems with the control arms and or having to cut and hammer flat the pinch weld

You could add the F&R FJ 4x4 springs and 1.5" daystar rear spacer. Also set the front 5100s to 2.5". I had my 285/70/17 duratracs on with that.
The only thing you might have a problem with is low caster with stock UCAs.
EDIT: I had to remove front mud flaps, push fender liner forward, and trim bumper. Also, I have spidertrax spacers front and rear.

Been looking at different tire sizes and i may just get some cooper discover stt pro in 255 75 17.. their website is showing 31.89" tall by 10.3" wide on a 7" wide rim. Then they should fit with minimal trimming i would imagine?

But now you mention the fj springs i do believe i have a set that came with the runner when i bought it.. never verified the color marked on the springs. How bad is the driving without upper control arms?

Definitely fj springs... so gonna order a 1.5 rear spacer and get it lifted and aligned... then body mount chop and fender liners and then get some 285s on it

The color markings have to do with which one is passenger and which one is driver..you probably know that but just in case you didn't.

At low caster, after you make a turn the steering wheel doesn't want to naturally go back to center. Also, the steering is kind of touchy at highway speed.

With the 255s you might be able to get away with using the 3rd notch on the 5100s. You'll have a little more rake though.

I was talking to a friend this evening about lift and tire setups and he asked me a question and it sounded like it could work with 255 80 17...

So currently i have stock springs with the front 5100 set to 1.75. It sits pretty level.

With 5100 fj springs with 1.5 rear spacer and the front set to 1.75 notch setup there is no rub anywhere under flex except the top of the rear mudflap at full compression. According to other people with that suspension setup and 255 80 17

So does that mean i wouldnt necessaryily need the height of the lift for the tires?

IE .... i could put the fj rear springs in which would net me .5 to .75" of lift and put the 5100 front to .85 / second notch up and the fj springs in front and get 1" lift for 1.85 total front lift

This would keep my center of gravity lower and help keep my caster in a good place and have the added benifit of the stiffer fj springs..

Just a thought and im curious what everybody thinks.

255/80 is the ideal size (imo), I opted for 285/70s myself due to pricing and availability

Ideally, you want to be able to fit the tire without a suspension lift (body lift helps clear tires, suspension lift ONLY helps on pavement. Off-road you'll still have the same clearance/rubbing issues as no lift)

That said, you'll prob have some trimming to do.

Tire place called and tires showed up late last night.. tires are gonna be installed wednsday. Going tosee if they fit with just front bilsteins set at 1.75. I moved the front wheel liners all the way forward and removed front and rear mudflaps. Will update on the findings and then again after the fj spring swap. Want the stiffer coil rate with the fj springs

Tires are on..will update pics soon... Barely touches the edge of rear front plastic fender and front of bumper at full flex and turning.. Found out that the guy i bought the 4runner from 1yr ago put g2 axle 1.25 wheel spacers on. The rear does not rub at all... I will start a build thread so people can see.. Might just end up selling my fj coils and leave it stock untill i can get a mt long travel setup funded.. I will have to do a little bit of offfroading before deciding on the fj coils
