Crazydubman's 97 limited runner build

Oh absolutely.

I know i will like them i just hope they are not too stiff. If they are i can always swap for a pair of 600# springs

I dont think the 650s are too stiff, not on my 2.5 Icons anyway, they ride awesome and flex great with zero need for a front sway bar. Its cool to see something other than ToyTec Coilovers in another build. Great build dude.

I love my 650 lb coils. The 600's I had on my SAW's produced too much body roll for my liking. With just my light bumper up front I never though they were stiff. They seem perfect for a truck. You'll love them!

Thanks Nate.

With all the extra weight that my 97 will have, i dont think it will be too far off a 4th gen 2wd v8.

Heck i just cant wait to get everything. Will also be picking up some new rotors this weekend for the "tundra upgrade". Did some research and will be using the stock calipers off my 06. I confirmed that they should be the same as the tundra ones which means the whole swap is costing me new rotors only. .:naughty:

Should be perfect then with my winch up front too.

Looks like the rear shocks, front brake lines, and uniball dry lube will be here tomorrow.

OME 861's will be here Friday.

I may try to get the rear end sorted out this weekend. Probably load it up with some more weight to break in the springs a little. Just really want to get those spacers out of there. :thumb:

I got 861's, SAW 2.0's, and extended stainless brake line installed in the rear this weekend along with a Tundra brake upgrade and stainless lines up front. Honestly the ride quality is just a hair over the stiffness of what it was stock. Firmer but not harsh at all. Im lovin it. The height on the other hand hahaha, is a bit more than I was thinking. Not sure how much others had to extend the E-brake cable bracket, but I have about a 5" extension on mine just to keep it from getting too tight on full droop.

The front is still on just the 1 1/4" top out spacers so there is about a 2.5-3" rake right now till I get the front coilovers. I don't have the internal cage yet or rear tire carrier so they still are not weighted down. Just to help with the height till I get the cage in and the front coilovers installed, I threw in 4 of the beadlocks adding about 200lbs to the cargo area. I already have my sub and storage bin and threw the stock spare back underneath as well. So even with about 350lbs extra, It still isn't dropping down much. Its surprising though because it still rides super smooth and has a lot of travel.

So far first impressions are awesome on the ride quality with this rear setup. Still need to find full bump and see where I need to extend the bump stops too. Also when I get the new links in, I need to pick up some limit straps because these suckers are long.

I also pulled the rear swaybar. Not sure how I like it yet as there is quite a bit of roll. once I get the front suspension installed, I will see whether it is ok and whether or not it will make its way back on with longer links.

I will have pictures up later today when I get home and upload them.
Stay tuned.

crazydubman I'd leave the rear sway out, I hate those things. You should be fine on body roll once you get the SAW's up front. What's the spring rate on them?

Yes the body roll is down to none even with the rear sways off on mine..once the springs settle and you have the cargo weighed down it's gonna feel alot planted..just my observation.

I believe the spring rates are 650. I figure the front shocks are pretty much done. They are the originals with over 160k on them.

Waiting to hear back from Eshocks with an update on when they will be shipped from there location. Man I can't wait...

Yup, throw that rear sway bar in the garbage lol you'll like the ride so much better especially with your front setup. It will kill any body roll. I have the 882's which are 650# coils and 9wrap rear and I have hardly any body roll. I really like it.

Right on. Thanks for the first hand insight.

The rear still has a slight shimmy when going over bumps. Alot better than before but its still there. Hopefully the new heim and poly bushing rear arms will help aleviate that completely.

I did notice how much the factory bushings bind up when installing the suspension. Without the shocks or springs installed, I jacked up one side to about an inch off the factory bumps to get the other side shock instaled and when I lowered the jack the axle dropped maybe 2" and stayed. It wasn't until I put my weight on that side that it was able to drop back down. The factory bushings are definitely binding up the travel.

I figure on a daily basis my load with the cage and rear tire carrier with tire will put it around 275-300lbs heavier than without. Add skids to that equation and it will help plant the rear springs well.

Cool.
With the travel I am getting I think the length of the swaybar endlinks that I would need would put them into the lower link on full stuff... Can't wait to see how it turns out with the front setup dialed in.
Oh and what is with the backlog on Camburg's upper control arms????

Apparently Wheelers has quite a few orders waiting to be filled when they finally arrive. They were told another week and a half till they should have them.... That means another 2 weeks till I get them at least.

Ya apparently they put all the race products and builds before the general public... If the price wasn't only what I could afford, I would probably end up with TC arms.... Hopefully they are back in stock soon.

This is a pretty amazing build. Really enjoyed reading through this and, unfortunately, started getting all sorts of expensive ideas in my head lol. Keep up the great work, would have loved to see the 1 tons but yeah, makes sense the way you're going about it. Good stuff man!

Thanks for the compliments. Its been a fast start for sure. Hopefully once the suspension is done, any major mods will hold off till after the wedding in August. I know that gears and a front locker will be in the plans at some point. Hoping to hold off on that for as long as possible but we will see how the trans likes the extra weight once its all loaded up. :yield:

Looks like you have a solid setup going!

One thing i will mention is that you may not have enough room to run a 7/8 heim on the axle side of the panhard bar. The clearance on mine is pretty close with the 3/4 x 3/4 heims. I'll see if i can snap a pic for you.

I noticed that too when I started looking closer at it. I talked to Any7offroad (Right across the street from my work) last week and they said they would be able to trade for some 3/4 heims and put the offset towards fab time. Does anyone know if there is a company that makes replacement Poly bushings for the panhard? That may be another option although it would be nice to be able to shift the axle over a tad.

TJM makes them for the Prado 90. Its the same chassis as the 3rd gen but i don't know of anyone trying it yet. The part number is 779713K.
