Thanks. It seemed like the logical choice to me. Just because it hasn't been done before, doesn't mean it is not a potentially better package.

Well this is a pretty big update!!!
I finally bit the bullet and put my order in for my 6x5.5-8x6.5 two piece wheel adapters from Wheel Adapters, Wheel Spacers, Hub Rings, and much more! | Motorsport Tech to mount my double beadlock hutchinsons.
They will be 35mm thick which roughly translates to 1 3/8". They should put the beadlocks which are a 16x8" 4"BS only 5/8" farther out than where the racelines are currently with the spidertraxs spacers. Should still be ok with the clearancing that I have already done to the firewall and inner fenders
They should be ready in 5-7 business days which means in the next couple of weeks, I can get my tires pulled off the racelines and mounted on the Hutchinsons and order up my spare 305 for the upcoming tire carrier.
I also should be getting my order of ceramic Airsoft BB's in the next couple of days to try out dynamic balancing like what dynabeads do. Hopefully this will solve all the current issues I have with keeping tires balanced with changing air pressure so much.

The "CV removal" is just a note to make sure when test fitting the skid again that there is room to gain access to the inner CV's to be able to remove them without dropping the skid. I used a chisel and a hammer to lightly pop them loose before. Just slide the chisel between the CV and diff and tap lightly.
They want the skids to be as user friendly as possible.
Cargo shelf is working out well so far. I may have to put a piece of angle along the front edge depending on the deflection i experience with adding weight to the top of it without a center support.
So far, the cases that are slid underneath it are secure enough not to have to strap them in. I will try to post some pictures of the basic setup tonight when I have a chance. Maybe I will try to load it up to show the reason behind the application.

I just saw that CV spot as well and been thinking of making the same cut for my BB. Drives me crazy that you have to drop the skid to change the CV.

exactly. It would make sense to be able to do everything but change the diff with that skid installed. With the weight of it, i don't want to have to pull it any more than needed. Already have a Fumoto quick drain valve and hose attached to it that will be tucked up on top of the skid till i need to change oil. I'm hoping I can get the filter out without dropping the skid too.

I had added the 3/8" rock rings to the faces to help keep the lips from taking too much damage.
Has there been any others that have actually adapted to an 8x6.5 bolt pattern? Only person I know of is Eric "faux x 4" on ttora and rsd who ran a set on his taco so he could run his hummer wheels till he went to tons.
The border patrols will be nice because if I ever do decide to swap some day to 1 ton axles, I will already have the wheels ready to rock. :thumb:

Bastard. I ordered a set of Hutchinson Rock Monster Beadlocks last week.
I'll be in San Diego when they get to the house so the wife gets to wrestle them into the shop.
Glad to see some other folks going to beadlocks.:thumb:

I am 99% positive yours will be the only rig rolling with 8 lugs. Its awesome dude, I've got to get to California one day to hit some trails with everyone out there. Anyone in your circle of friends talk about hitting the Rubicon Trail? That would be worth a couple weeks vacation to me, Ive read about it and looked at pictures of it my entire life!

Ya I have had these for probably close to 2 years now. I was on the verge of selling them but figured with what I paid to have the rock rings welded in, on top of the original cost plus new seals, and a set of nuts for one of the wheels, I knew I wouldn't get what I wanted for them. Still in to them less than a set of 5 new ones from Rock monster and they are 16's. :cheers:
So I buckled down and bought the adapters to put them to use.
Once great thing though... I have 6 total. I get my 4+ spare and an additional one in case I ever damage one beyond repair :bigok:

Well looking on Dyna Beads website, they suggested anywhere between 6-8oz of media for a 33x12.5. I will be adding just over 8oz to each wheel. Not Dynabead product but ceramic .20g airsoft BB's. Should be a little over 1100 beads in each tire if my calculations are correct. I have a digital scale that I will be measuring out the amounts to make sure they are even.
The majority of the imbalance would come from the tire anyways. The distance of the weight offset from the hub is what throws things out of balance.
Hutchinsons are known to be one of the heaviest beadlocks primarily due to the internal bead lock ring. I think the whole beadlock assembly tips the scale at 48lbs + tire which adds another 62lbs. Should put the whole setup right around 110lbs when done. Heavy yes but stout.
The only added weight from the rock rings was maybe 2lbs. Nothing major at all.

Ya I would love to check out the rubicon some time. One thing to consider though is that it is not nearly what it once was. From what I have read on various forums and talking to friends, it really has changed over the last 5-10 years.
I have never been through the trail but I think the runner is about where I want it to be so hopefully in the next year or so. only other thing on my list to do really is tire carrier and gears down the road. Still undecided on a front locker yet.

Skids are finally finished. Still need to pull them to paint but they are installed till this weekend.
I really like how the front is at an angle with hidden hardware along with all of the hardware that mounts the skids is up out of the way.
The crossmember reinforcements are a nice touch too.
And a couple of the crossmember supports.
Looks like the pricing for the front and belly skids, crossmembers, and hardware is $650 for the package. Darren said that if you bought the entire package including gas tank skid the price would be $850. They are knocking off about 10% ($90) for the complete package.
Darren also said that if you wanted to buy one part then come back later and purchase the rest, he would knock the $90 off the final purchase.
They are wanting to get one more 4runner into the shop for install to make sure that all the measurements and mounting is good for production. If anyone is interested and local, give them a call and they can set you up.
Can't wait to get out there and beat the hell out of them :lookout:

Unfortunately no. I haven't run one since I bought the 4runner.

They look really good but why all the awesome design details and leave the lower control arm mounts unprotected? The coverage everywhere else looks like the best on the market, just surprised to not see them covered. Otherwise, I would sell my full set of Savage skids for a set of these.
