Creeping forward at stop lights

Is this a bug or feature? In 40 years of driving I have always rested my foot on the brake at stop lights. In the 2016 SR5 it starts creeping forward unless I use a heavier foot than I have ever used. RPM is still around 800 so I am wondering if this is normal. I now try to remember to slap it into neutral so avoid the 1 mph creeping

Mine does this exact thing. I asked the mrs's and and said it does it for her too. I thought maybe I was just getting lazy. My work truck a 16 Tacoma doesn't do it.

Interested to hear others.

I've actually noticed this a bit too. I've almost rear ended people at long lights looking at my text messages on my phone. Lol.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the car, it's just the way it is compared to other vehicles I've driven in the past.
 
Notice if your AC kicks in when it starts to creep. If your brake force and the torque @ idling reach a perfect balance the slightly added rpm may trigger it.
 
MY 2004 SR5 4Runner did it and so does the 2015 4Runner although not as much as the 2004 did.

Mine happens when I have a light, lazy foot on the brakes and the AC compressor cycles on while waiting at the light. I don't notice it happening when I don't have the AC running.

Having had it happen on my 2004 it hasn't crossed my mind as a defect.
 
thought i was nuts.. but yea my 2017 trd pro creeps. never had a car like this. My first japanese car. Had 3 german before, and 3 american cars when i got the TRD
 
Yes mine has done it since day one and noticed it immediately. Really have to keep foot down and like OP says RPMs are where they presumably should be. Also notice that after starting it and giving some time to warm up (till RPMs drop) it wants to lurch forward after putting it into gear...even with my
foot on the brake. Have driven a few automatic Toyota's and Honda's and never noticed it with them. Strange indeed.

Perhaps a poll would be appropriate here?

I honestly had never really thought about it, but I actually see it as a possible part of the design for off-road performance. Thinking back to this weekend when I was driving it up onto ramps in my garage the throttle does allow it to stay while going up the ramps and doesn't allow for much drift back. This is advantageous in being able to more gently use the accelerator when overcoming obstacles off road (kind of like a slight hill holder with the natural throttle response). I could be (and probably am) completely wrong on this, but have never seen this as a safety issue, actually never noticed this as I usually fully depress the break at stoplights and stay off of my phone while driving.
