Ha, trust me I feel the exact same way assuming the family and dogs are not in the house.
Following up with some more pics, she's still in the shop 10 weeks later and several missed "finish dates". Painted, waiting to be buffed and then reassembly of all those missing parts they tell me.
Here are a few for those that always wondered what the inside of our 4Runners looked like. These are week 5:
And week 8, old roof cut off, new roof welded in place. Gotta say, kind of like the Mad Max beat up two tone look lol, just not on my 2015 ride.
Maybe next week or two if things go ok. I'm sure there won't be any issues at all after putting all those parts back.... :doh:

Glad no one was hurt and that, even though at a snails pace things are coming back together.
I am always interested in seeing the aftermath of wrecks and how all the parts reacted and things get put back together. Of-course I also hope no one was seriously hurt or worse.
One interesting thing I noticed about the dash. I recently went to a junk-yard to pick a piece off of a 2008 4Runner. I noticed that the vehicle looked like it had been rolled but that the passenger compartment stayed nice and relatively square. The dash in particular had a steel, cross tube (from driver side to passenger side) at the height of just under the speedo panel etc. In your 5th gen picture I don't see that same steel tube. Did they happen to take it out to replace or do 5th gen's have that area reinforced some other way? Just curious.
Hard to see in this schematic but it's the tube that tapers after the center from left to right. Picture is from the 2004 Repair Manual.

I have that tube in my 2013, you can see it once you pull the stereo.

I somehow didn't feel as safe if that tube was no longer in the 5th Gen's. for whatever reason.
Don't mean to hi-jack OP! Hope things are still progressing well and you will be hitting the trails soon in your 4Runner!

If I had to guess it wasn't reinstalled yet. The picture showing the dash is actually just the top part temporarily put in place and had to be removed again. They said they put it back in to test fit after welding in the new cowl piece between dashboard and engine bay/firewall area. Once everything looked/fit ok, dash was removed again in preparation of painting.
Of course, this is what I hope explains it.... lord knows what other parts I might be missing at this point :dizzy:

Wow. That is definitely some work. I'm a claims exaimner for a major insurance company and all I can say is that 4runners rarely total out due to the high resale values. As far as DOV that is very rare that you can file against your own insurance company as it is probably included in the policy otherwise everyone would be asking for DOV every time they were in an accident or if their vehicle was "vandalized". Keep in mind that DOV laws are state specific.

well damn, for some reason i thought my policy in the same state (which i assume is the standard) only excluded at-fault but you're right it excludes any first party claim for diminished value

Certain states like Georgia automatically include DOV. My advice to anyone not at fault is to file through the other parties insurance if you are going to claim DOV. It will definitely be an uphill battle as it will be your responsibility to determine how much your vehicles value WOULD HAVE dropped. All the numbers are truly hypothetical as it is almost impossible to determine the decrease in value. In addition you are ultimately paying someone to give their "professional" opinion on the value of your car that you're hypothetically going to sell 3 years later.

Yep, Snow Jet nailed exactly what I was told as well regarding diminished value when I asked my agent.. since there was no other party involved, I'm screwed. Basically, I can't go after my own insurance to try and get it.
I'll be driving the repair shop nuts until it's perfect, that's about all I know to do at this point. The 4Runners hold value so well this all still didn't hit the mark.
Does make me a hell of a lot less reluctant to go with a Prinsu in the future... no matter how bad I screw up the install I now see how to just replace the entire roof lol :rofl:

I wouldn't necessarily say you're screwed. The way I look at it neither you or your wife was hurt and that's what really matters. Best of luck with everything and hopefully you get truck back soon. BTW, it would probably be a good idea to start upgrading your bumpers if they have been damaged. [emoji13]

Yep, pin striping is like a paper cut after this! I was rear ended with 7k on my odometer, the mods began not long after!

Well, was told it would be ready for pickup 9/14, so stopped by 9/13 out of curiosity and to drop off the roof rack delete kit (so my roof wouldn't leak constantly). A replacement Baja rack wasn't ordered by shop in time, so now told a 4-6 week wait, so I said don't bother, I'll get one myself, just show me the money :girl:
I ended up ordering a Prinsu full rack, as after having the entire roof cut out and re-welded in place, who cares about two new holes I drill ha :biggrin2:
Needless to say, vehicle wasn't close to being ready, but I can say the paint work looked nice. More pics for those that like to see under the skin:
Moral of the story, treat timeframe estimates from a Toyota/Nationwide body shop like weather forecasts, they don't care if even remotely accurate. :moping:
