Cruzado's IDGAF build thread

I still have my stock exhaust, not sure why it's held up so well, but figure I'll replace it before too long so I'm curious if yours drones at highway speeds or not. I pull a travel trailer and can't listen to any drone hour after hour.

it has ever the faintest but nothing like my gibson, or the TRD i keep hearing about, if i really listen for it i hear it but other wise no. if its something that worries you you can always have an exhaust shop add a resonator in to kill any drone there might be. but the high tuck exhaust has taken all worry about pretzeling it away. i learned my lesson with the low hanging stock exit exhaust.

went to the dealer and got new clips to fix my fender flare. kinda absurd price for the clips, but whatever.

So its been a little while, i havent done much to the 4th gen. Just took it out to lonestar jamboree, ill try to get some pics and videos up in the next few days.

finally went out to a cars and coffee, had some Heep posers park by me.

i also picked this up, it needs alot of work but its gonna be awesome when its done, already have an 85 parts truck and ive spent way to much money over at the 4runner house down in garland.

sorry im like 4 months late i havent been of t4r much recently. the Elocker retrofit is pretty straight forward and easy to do on our later model axle housings. if you want something a little less involved then the Harrop elocker(eaton elocker) is now available in the us through cruiser brothers and TRDparts4U for roughly the same price as an ARB. i dont really trust ARB lockers since if you blow the seal out of the locker its just gonna bubble your gear oil, which ive personally seen more than a few times to guys wheeling with me. i personally wouldnt do an auto locker in the V8s since we have the full time 4wd and i can fore see issues with the vsc and trac on the street. now a v6 multi mode is probably a different story entirely since it can be put into 2wd.

so a few months past due update. i finally did my powersteering pump that i blew out back in like september. very straight forward and easy to do especially with the bodylift on it. also just did some maintenance thats been due like brakes and oil.

new Power Stop z36 pads to replace my powerstop z23 pads that i had on it before.

As for the pump it was pretty self explanatory, i did reuse my OEM restrictor plate that goes in before the Banjo connection since the one in the reman i got from napa seemed kinda chincy. the pulley was just a 17mm nut and it slid right off and the new one went right on. I also added an inline filter and will add a cooler to try to keep this pump alive with the 35s.

to get it out i dropped the washer bottle that helped tremendously. especially getting to the return line connection in the front of the fender.

The hole it comes out of. it will be smaller without a bodylift so be aware of that if anybody needs to do a powersteering pump.

The top stud it rests on is LONG, i had to ram the pump up against the radiator hose to compress it enough to get the pump off the stud and push pretty hard to get the new one on.

i installed the inline filter in the middle of the soft return line just below the reservoir. and i ended up spilling old fluid every where since i didnt think of a good way to drain the system so there was that. over all a relatively easy job to do. took maybe an hour and a half.

Your 4R looks nice, my fiancee wants a 5th Gen, and I've been toying with the idea of selling my Wrangler and picking up a 4th Gen. The Jeep clubs are pretty sizable, how are the 4R/Toyota clubs around the area? I'm in SW FW.

im part of the toyota trail riders, we are probably the largest club for toyotas in DFW/ north Texas. great group of people and we wheel a ton. we meet at pappas BBQ at 35 & 635 & loop 12 every 2nd thursday of the month.

as for selling the wrangler and getting a 4th gen, i came from the same scenario and i don't regret it one bit. much more reliable, rides better, just as easy if not easier to work on, and if set up well can wheel just as good or better than a lot of wranglers. the V8 is a great motor and i love the torque, i do get just about the same fuel mileage as my dads 2012 4runner trail too.

this i the kind of articulation mine has at the moment, which is a large amount more than most here and not even comparable to stock.

Today i installed my power steering cooler to hopefully keep my pump alive. i also discovered my power steering idle up valve, or as toyota refers to it as the power steering control valve, had gone bad and was venting fluid into the intake manifold at a pretty alarming rate. so i bypassed the valve by looping it back on itself with the shortest piece of line and then capped off the two nipples on the manifold and intake tube.

the two lines i pulled out, one is the hard line that runs across the front of the truck and the other is the line that went from the idle up valve to the intake manifold.

ordered the Hayden auto trans cooler model #679 which is 6x11x.75 in size.

i used two brackets from home depot and two existing bolt holes on the core support that are m6x1.0 holes. i might go back and actually make a decent looking bracket but its not very high on my priority list.

You figure there will be no issue with having it looped back onto itself? I'd assume the manifold provides some sort of positive pressure for it?

I like that exhaust just wondering where the heck are your skids, are there any videos to listen to the exhaust I needed an exhaust as well

i mean its not a permanent fix by any means. im just buying time till i can get a new control valve for it. so far no issues with the 50 miles ive put on it since yesterday. i was just tired of having to top the reservoir off every day at a minimum.

the way that valve functions is when you cut the wheel the pressure coming out of the pump will open the air/dry side allowing the manifold to draw vacuum and bypass the throttle body to idle the truck up. from what ive experienced so far is that its kinda redundant and the truck will idle up using the throttle body when it realizes the load.

they were off when i took that picture. hell theyre off right now since i was doing all this power steering work on it recently, and since theyre so damn heavy theyll probably be off for a few days at least.

im sure i can get you a video of my exhaust in the next few days. i love the borla i put in it not super loud and has a nice tone all the way through the rpm range. 10x better sound than my gibson was.

This is my first time to stroll through the 4th Gen part. Glad I did since you're decently local. I went to Bridgeport last weekend and that place gets pretty crazy I noticed. I wheel almost every weekend and I got my first trail damage there haha. I am in austin so normally go to hidden falls. Hope to see you at the jamboree man!

Here's my battle scar (and I still conquered)

Really tiny lol my rear mud flap and cladding took the blunt of it (hence why it's now removed)

I love the nice clean look. Is the BL essential to your fitting of 35s? I've already got the bmc and some trimming, but I'm not sure what all I'll have to do to get 35s under there when I buy my next set of tires.

Also, I love the travel you're getting from your metaltech rear. I talked a little with them over the phone and they said that they didn't think their rear spring would work for me given the weight I have. Are you using their spring? What's your experience been like with it?

In my experience the body lift is required to effectively run 35s on our 120 platform trucks. it also requires a rather large BMC and beating the firewall/pinch weld like it owes you money. as well as cutting the fenders.

as to the metaltech springs, i run their lower rate springs. i usually carry some spare parts, tools and maybe a cooler wheeling so maybe ~200lbs of extra stuff in the rear. however if i hookup a heavy trailer or something itll sag a decent amount. however i wouldnt give them up for anything. they area the best springs ive run in the back of my 4th gen hands down. i would think the heavy rate springs they have should work for you. if any thing you can use the firestone airbags that free float inside the spring to compensate when loaded down. which is what i will likely do to help when i tow.

I only get winched following solid axle guys. IFS can only do so much. Especially since I don't even have a trac so I find myself in solid rear wheel drive a lot
