curious on what this wire goes to by the radiator

I was installing my winch finally and needed a ground wire to the control box.
so I started to undo the small black wire that was on teh front of the lower cross bar on the lower end of the radiatior.

course the bolt broke off and the wire came out. so the other end was no connected to anything. is not very long and had eylets at each end.

any Idea's???

May be it belonged to your winch.

Most ground wires on the 4runner are white with w black stripe or unshielded. I looks like a left over from some one else.

^^what he said.My guess would be leftover from a set of auxiliary lights that are no longer there, if it's not from a winch.

it was there when I bought the rig. and PO didn't do anything to it. so a stock runner I had till I got a hold of it.

was just curious really . was not the winch cause I installed that. lol

ps, I took the pic after I broke teh bold that held the eylet shown off. the other end was behind the verticle bracket in front of the radiatior

Does this wire go into the harness over top of the rad? Like Singtoe mentioned, the ground wires for the 4R are White/Black. Maybe the PO forgot to tell you about the driving lights he had in it?? By the looks of that ring terminal, it was likely from a pre-made harness for something. Few professional mechanics that I know have the crimper to make that connection and even less backyard mechanics.

its 8.5 in long. with eylets and look OEM,

not a biggy. guess when some one has time to go out and look behind there grill and see if they have one.
mine is a 00.

for those that were wondering and trying to help me out.
I found out what that ground wire went to.

it connected the cross member in the pic. to the one below it. ( in front of the radiator)

so really nothing to big of deal as I have first thought.


when bored and before the snow falls I might put it back in with new screws since the one holding it on broke off.

asked a stranger to look under his 02.

Weird...Must be an '00 thing. I checked my '99 last night and didn't find this mystery wire. It wasn't listed in the wiring diagram either.
