Custom/Aftermarket Seats

Has anyone put any aftermarket seats in their 5th gen yet?

I'm debating on some of these:
Baja RS - Suspension Reclining - Corbeau Racing Seats

or

Baja XRS - Corbeau Racing Seats

Anyone with experience doing seat swaps (bracketry and such)in our rigs yet?

I am of the mindset that anything labeled as 'racing' doesn't belong on a 4Runner but that's just my .02. That being said I find the seats perfectly ok for my needs. I am sure with the proper fab skills you could fit these though.

Check Mastercraft and PRP.....I run a PRP in my Mule and it is excellent, but I had to fab my own brackets.

Skip the Baja RS seats. I have them in my Wrangler front/rear and, while they're ok, they slant back and have no head support in the event of a wreck, you will get severe whiplash. I got them because I was planning on running 4 point harnessess and the rig sees less than 5k miles per year.

I would look at PRP or Mastercraft. See if you can find a local dealer to sit in different models.

I'd be a bit leery about the factory airbags.

I do love the Recaro sportsters!

Those seats are actually very very nice, I would throw them in my 4Runner.

Sheel- Mann seats for sure. Look them up, Adventure Driven is using them in there new Ford Expedition rig.

skip the Corbeau unless you've sat in them in person. We were looking at putting them in our heep but I couldn't get over the fact that it sounded like a grocery bag under the cover's. My buddy had them in his prerunner and they only lasted a year before they ripped.

Prp on the other hand that's what I'd go with, I did think about it since I find the stock seats uncomfortable on my back and suspension seats would be nice offroad.

Plus they have their online seat builder and thought this combo would look killer since I have tan interior. With the hydration pack pockets of course.

I would look into recaro suv series of seats, a lot of guys run em in their prado's and land cruisers overseas, meaning there might be a premade bracket that "might" fit our 4runners. Otherwise, you'd have to prefab your own brackets.

As for side airbags, those can be disabled with a resistor, to disable the airbag light. Obviously, you are disabling the airbag too.

So what about the Air bags would I have to worry about, what am I missing? A seat is a seat. Im not sure what concerns I will have to deal with....I dont know exactly what sensors are where and how they work as far as seats as related to airbags.

there is an airbag in the seat, so at the very least you would lose that and get an airbag light.

no kidding, in the seat. Well, I guess I need to do more research.

PRP's are comfortable and last. I had mine custom made and picked it up in person, 20 years ago and it hasn't broken down or become ''loose''.

All the products Corbeau list, say they will fit most any vehicle with their pre made, custom brackets. Has anyone used these to know that they will fit?

You can likely plug a resistor into the airbag harness to keep the SRS light off. I'm not sure what the wattage and resistance is for the seat airbags, though.

Yup. In the side bolsters. I've been wanting to buy a wrecked TRD Pro and do an interior swap to my SR5, but finding one wrecked, without the airbags deployed has proved near impossible.

Reversing front passenger seat

To make more room inside when camping, it would be great to have a front passenger seat where the back detaches, the seat bottom rotates 180 degrees (or detaches from the seat base and then re-attaches facing rearward), then the seat back re-attaches to the seat bottom, so that the entire front passenger seat now faces rearward. With the 2nd row seats removed entirely, the 2nd row seat area can become kind of a "living room" space.

Not enough room inside the 4Runner cabin to actually rotate the entire front passenger seat 180 degrees, but a quick detach/re-attach process like this would result in the same thing as a rotated seat. Any custom seat maker who can make this?

I have removed the 2nd row seats in my 4Runner. They are heavy. I estimate 100 lbs. for the full set. But lifting off just the passenger seat back, and then lifting off just the seat bottom, should be fairly easy, from a weight perspective. Disconnect the wiring harness in the process. I was not aware of the airbag in the seat so that would be another thing to take into account.
