Custom front bumper build

That looks amazing! Looking to do a custom bumper build here in the near future and I like yours is mounted. I might try to do something similar, albeit much less attractive looking, I'm sure.

Here's a more up to date picture with how it looks today. It looks way better with some angle. I see a lot of Tacoma's with near vertical skid plates and it doesn't look that great.

Yeah. I made an intermediate skid to go from the bunper skid to my savage skid plates.

What size tire are you running? Looks like a total chaos lt kit?

What rear bumper and springs? Any pictures?

The radiator is out of a 2000 Tacoma 4 cylinder. It uses all of the same mounts. I haven't had any issues. Since it's a little shorter you can't use the lower shroud without cutting it up. I also don't pull anything with my 4Runner, so I don't know how it would work with a trailer behind it.

When I changed the radiator I drained the old radiator and used the same fluid to fill the new radiator and I had maybe 3/4 to 1 quart left over. It's the same width and depth, just a bit shorter.

I don't have a shroud currently anyways...
I might have to try this. How much shorter is it do you recall?

The rear bumper is custom. I've got a rear bumper build thread on here somewhere. The tires are 315/75/16. Im running OME 861 rear springs if I remember correctly? Yeah, it's a TC kit.

It was a good 4-5 inches shorter. It doesn't hang any lower than the ac condenser. It also doesn't hang below the frame rail at all.

do you remember or maybe know where you got the radiator from? looking on line there seems to be at least 3 different Tacoma 4 cylinder radiators available. But I do see the sizes are different.

Off topic from the bumper, but I’ve never driven a truck with long travel and always wondered how the steering feel is affected by the 7” increase in trac width. Does the steering feel looser on road? Does it wander easier compared to stock?

It still drives just as straight as it did stock. You can't tell it has long travel until you hit a corner. Since it has more travel and no sway bars it leans quite a bit.

With PATCO's help we built a custom bumper for the runner. I had an Outdoor logic bumper and got bored, so I tried something a little different. I installed a shorter radiator a couple month back to get the skid tucked up as far as I could. Ended up cutting the frame back a couple inches too. To finish it off, I need to make a small skid to tie the savage skid to the new front bumper just under the front diff.

Would you make duplicates of this design? I'm a big fan of this exact build

In case he doesn't answer... Tacoma 2.4L or 2.7L radiator. Do some research on the Tacoma forums on the specifics of the 'short' radiators.

As phattyduck mentioned, it's from a 2.7L 1st gen tacoma. I bought an aftermarket radiator from champion radiator.
