Out of respect I'm going to stick with this not very revealing photo of his rig. I hold out hope he will soon be on the forum too. Want to save the glory of sharing with everyone on the forum for him to have, it's not my place.
I will say, we were walking to his car in the parking lot yesterday and I had to mention how factory it looked. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have my doubts about adding this to his car. But it turned out great and I think it's a nice, tasteful addition to the car.
For those wondering: Trail Emblem Revision 02 in Black Strong and Flexible
It needed to be painted to smooth out the texturing, he used Krylon Semi-Gloss Black. Again, looks great in my (and his and my brother's) opinion.

I ordered about a half dozen of these myself to experiment with. Some things I have learned:
1. I too discovered that priming then painting (with a rattle can) has turned out the best so far. Near perfect, well as close as I can get to what I think is an acceptable product
2. The plastic dip alone was just okay. If you do want to dip them it is best to prime them first.
3. If you have to sand them for any reason do so with care and a ultra fine grit 800 or better. Too much sanding and you will go through the color layer and reveal the white below.
4. If you want to save a few bucks and typically get them faster you can order the Revision 02 in White Strong and Flexible too.

One other thing, I received one that the packager was a little over zealous and the emblem had a pretty good deform to it. I hit it with heat gun at roughly 150F. Use no more that 170F the plastic is rated to 176F
I would be really interested to see if someone actually forks out for a metal version
I would be skeptical though as they say you will see print lines. Still curious though, would love to see what they turn out like.

Dude don't, the metal materials start at $60 a piece. Unless of course you have money to drop on it, then certainly.
They had a special a little while back with White Strong and Flexible, prints were roughly 3-5 business days then shipping usually 2-3 days for me.
On average mine have been 10 business days + shipping for Black Strong and Flexible. The fastest I have gotten one was a week and a half.
The biggest factor, they try to do as many prints as they can at once. This means they try to fill as much of the machines print bed as full possible before they do a run. Other things such as tumbling to smooth them take time as well as coloring.
In reality it is really quite fast for a one off custom job.

I haven't gotten any acrylic based on its characteristics. I would not recommend it. It is only temp resistant to 120F. Summertime paint temps, depending on where you are, could easily exceed that, particularly on dark colored paint.
Most all of their products are a matte finish. From my experience, you are going to have to paint pretty much anything you get from them if you want a gloss or semi gloss finish.
I would be really interested to see what these guys can produce, think Terminator

Thanks for the heads up. Being that my 5th-gen is all black, nylon sounds like the way to go. I am actually looking for a matte finish, but I was going to plastidip them anyway. Is the standard finish smooth and of decent quality as it is or should I get a can of dip just in case?

You should prime it then dip. I tried two with straight dip and I got some bubbling. I primed and dipped and primed and painted and both of them came out nice. Their black finish is really matte, no kidding around, too matte for me personally. The material is almost the perfect surface for paint, it has just right amount of coarseness to it.
No worries, post pics for sure! I am really curious to see how the metal one turns out.
