Custom Trail Emblem Made

I probably did it the ghetto way compared to alot of people on the board. I took scissors and cut little strips of weatherstripping then arranged them on the emblem as best I could. It wasn't perfectly formed to the emblem but it worked well. The hard part is getting them level and centered on the C pillar!

Thx ! Was it easy to cut and fit to the emblem?

I just realized that the second appears to be much thicker than the first.

I used the second one. The emblem sticks out a bit but I think it looks fine.

Has anyone tried to put one of these on the front on the grille? I wonder of the 3M tape would be enough to keep the emblem attached or if there would need to be another means.

If the surface is flat enough and you clean it with alcohol 3M tape shout be good enough. If you want to mount it to some mesh you could use some JB weld to mount the head of a couple of screws to the back of the emblems then just put the threads through the mesh and put the washers and nuts on. Would look pretty cool on the lower right corner of a Satoshi grill

that's exactly what I was thinking in terms of the satoshi look, I just grabbed some jb weld for another project, so I'm good to go with that as well.

[MENTION=74347]Silvr Bullet[/MENTION] was nice enough to print up some prototypes to get a feel of scale to help speed up the process. That is what you are looking at. We would be waiting another month without his help. I am not sure what type of printer he has. His material is sandable. You could always plasti-dip them too

I am still waiting on a Shapeways print made with "Strong & Flexible Black Plastic" which comes in a "slight matte" to verify its finish. Of which I will post pics when it arrives next week. I paid just over $20 for the print including shipping. Obviously printing in silver or gold is going to cost more than $20.

Okay I will reiterate what I am doing here. I am not making a bunch of these and selling them. I am simply designing the model and setting this up for everyone as a thank you to the community. You will pay whatever it costs for Shapeways to print them, I am not making anything out of this venture (aside from a couple of prints).

You will go to Shapeways, choose how many 3d prints you want, what color, and what material you want it made out of.

There are about two dozen different materials you can choose from. You can get polished plastics to brass, or hell bling it out with 18 carat gold.

Added emblem to rear of truck. Originally bought two, but screwed one up trying to "smooth out" the 3D printing lines with Dremel attachment. That didn't go so well. :redbrick:

I will be ordering two more for the sides.

Use double stick 3m tape. Use the one that's like a foam double stick and not the one that's like stretchy plastic. The stretchy plastic kind doesn't work as well.

This is what I have been sending out to those who ask:

Hi!

Sorry there is no 2-sided adhesive included. To keep cost to a minimum, ie you are paying cost I make nothing off these, they are shipped directly from Shapeways.

I recommend that you primer the model first with a few light coats of automotive primer, lightly sand smooth to remove any primer imperfections, then either plasti-dip or paint.

You can get high quality 3m automotive VHB acrylic #4926 from Amazon, this is the best cost to product ratio (roughly $20 for 5 yd.), you will need a small piece to cover the legs of the R:
TapeCase 1.25 in Width x 5 yd Length, Converted from 3M VHB Tape 4926 (1 Roll): Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

You can also buy 3M two-sided tape, I cannot vouch for the quality, at any automotive store, wallmart, or home improvement store for about $5 a roll.

The VHB tape is super thin, it is foam backed but only a few mils thick, about as thick as heavy duty black garbage can liners. So it is not very noticeable.
