Cutting Exhaust Pipe for a Deleted Look

Has anyone cut the end of the exhaust pipe that shows (either from the side or the rear) so there's no exhaust pipe showing...essentially a delete? Is it safe to do or do the fumes get into the cabin? I'm just not a fan of tailpipes showing. Rather have a cleaner look...

just put a turndown tip right off the muffler. You'll probably get drone and other weird reverberations in the cab. but maybe not. v8's are different than these motors. :Shrug: ran a turndown on my titan for a year or so, the drone drove me batsh1t crazy lol

Yep look at the install directions for many of the rear bumpers for these trucks and you'll see where the "spot" is to cut... It is just where it comes back to (nearly) horizontal behind the rear axle

In the (less than) week I've had my 4R I've eyeballed the exhaust tip.
Not for esthetic reasons, but I don't want to pinch it closed dropping off a ledge.

Been there, done that... reopened the exhaust with a screwdriver and vice grips... Thus why I'm looking forward to my LFD Rear bumper showing up so I can be motivated to cut the tail section off!

I cut mine all the way off to just past the axle when I installed my LFD rear bumper. No issues or weird noises. Still past emissions. [emoji2369]

Some folks just chop it behind the axle, I think all would be fine, but I can see how exhaust fumes under the truck (especially idling) wouldn't be ideal. I think I am going to have something fabbed up so it goes side exit, like the Tacoma exhaust does.

I cut mine because I crushed it on some rocks.

Never noticed a difference.

on all of my 4runners, I have always cut the pipe just past the axle, where it goes down and have never, had any exhaust smell.
I found a pic from my old 99 as reference.

Bumping an old thread.
Has anyone had issues with the exhaust no longer being supported at the end (the part removed)?
I haven't chopped mine yet. Have rear recovery points on the way necessitating the removal.
Or swap to TRD muffler and side exhaust (still possibly damaged offroading)

I’ve had mine cut off for many years with the cbi bumper, but I cut so that last hanger is still there. I get some drone occasionally going up into the mtns but no smell.
