CV axle boot keeps ripping after lift

Hi everyone,

I have a 2006 4runner to which I threw bilsteins 5100s on about a year ago. After doing so, the cv axle boot ripped and so I replaced the axles for some new stock axles again. About 3 months after, I noticed the inner boot from the driver's side had ripped again, and so I took it to the shop that did the lift for my to replace the axles this time. They did a differential drop which absolutely helped the angle at which the axles sit, and they got new aftermarket cv axles that to my understanding are just like the stock. About 6 weeks ago, I noticed that this time, the boot on the wheel side on driver's side started to rip off. Today, I noticed that the boot is damaged a lot more and now the inner boot is also ripping. There is no clicking noises at all (at least yet) and I am planning on taking it back to the shop that did this work for me, but I am just confused as to why the boots ripped again after the differential drop?
Keep in mind that I do not off road my car, besides going on sidewalks when need to go around stuff or whatnot.
Any suggestions of where the issue could be?

Can you post a pic of your cv axles? Bilstein 5100's with stock springs?

The boots probably aren't ripping. It's much more likely the bellows are touching, and thereby rubbing each other apart while driving. It's a common problem, look around for threads about the boot stretch method. Just reboot the axles you have though, don't waste any more money buying new ones. You can get boot kits from most auto parts stores, Toyota may even still carry them.

I've had great experience with using 5th gen boots along with the boot stretch mod.

i had problems with my stock boots at 178k. i since then lifted it to about 2.5” and replaced with cvj axles. those only lasted a little over 2 years. the ribs dont rub on mine at all. the outer boot tore. i found they use “oem like boots”. bought oem boot kit and its been good for over a year now. wondered about 5th gen boots. seems like they work as well and probably have a better clamp because oem inner boot clamp on the big side, the one that cams over style sucks.
