CV Boot lubricant.....

Anything I can use to lubricate the CV boots? Mine aren't in bad shape but being rubber I'm assuming some sort of lubricant can't hurt.....WD40?

If I were to be possessed by the urge to treat the boot rubber, I'd reach for one of those water-based silicone-ey "space-age" protectant substances whose names I've forgotten because I so rarely use them for anything except the door rubber.
You know....the ones that morons rub on their car interiors right before they sell the car, forcing the new owner to spends hours cleaning the creepy, slimy, migrating stuff off?

Seriously, unless the boots are coated with an stuck-on abrasive or glass shards that might cause them to self-erode, you might be better of leaving the black dust buildup in place as a protective coating.
Same reason it's better to leave the faded outer layer on your tires...it acts as a sacrificial first layer to environmental contaminants.

Just pull the axle and do some boot replacements, Super easy, will usually come with boots, grease and clamps for pretty cheap.

I was wondering this. let's say I have replaced my front axles maybe 12 times on the same 4runner. but I have only purchased 3. two from O'Reillys and one from autozone. they still have a standing lifetime warrantee. what's to stop someone on here that needs a new axle to just pull theirs off take it to one of the parts stores use my phone number and name and get a new axle?

When I have asked for such, they ask for a phone number and photo ID. A day later I have a new CV.
