CV boot torn, how bad ?

Hey Guys,

Just took a look under my truck the other day and I happened to notice that the front left cv boot is now torn just past the middle of the boot. It doesn't look like to me that any of the grease has come out i.e it doesn't look like a milkshake underneath the car.

How bad does it look ? I have a big trip coming up in a month about 8000km there and back and I was wondering if this is going to be a problem. Is the front drive axle engaged when in 2h or only when in 4h ?

I want to try and use some gorilla tape to hold it back together but I don't know how that is going to hold up, the truck only has 170k km's on it which isn't too bad.

Should this be fixed before my trip ? :sadwave:

I would recommend getting it fixed.... With a torn boot it's just a matter of time and not worth the risk.... If you've caught it early enough you might be able to get away with repacking the grease and a new boot.... Worst case is replace the CV....

Yeah I think after reading a lot of other threads I'm going to go ahead and replace the entire CV axle. I don't know how long its actually been like this and the likelihood there is dirt and moisture up in there is high.

Going to grab two Cardone cv's from rockauto and get someone to do the install.
