Been searching for this, but haven't found too much information. I am contemplating buying the boot kit from toyota (camelback) to replace both of my inner/ outer cv boots; however, i've heard time and time again that it's almost worth just riding them until the cv joint needs to be replaced. What are your thoughts on this? Should I drop 60 in just parts to replace boots, deal with the all the pita work and mess involved, or save the money for down the road? My inner boots are slightly leaking. I'm at 109k on the odo.

If you suggest replacing the cv joints/ axles what would your recommendation be? I'm sure oem is priced through the roof.

I used oem rebuilds as they were reasonable price and easy to get. Others have mentioned that on Rock auto sells cv's for $60-70.

how much were the oem rebuilds and where to you suggest to shop for them? I'm thinking I'll forgo the boot kits, save myself 60 bucks and worry about it later.. at least I can re pack them and re-clamp them.

I recall they were $130-140 range.

Are the inboard boots leaking at the small clamp? They tend to leak there over time, if there's still quite a bit of grease in the joint you could just install a new clamp and inject some grease in there if you wanna save some time and money.

I also think you get a core charge for CV Axles so you can save some money there by turning them in also.

I really need to inspect it better; however, if I recall correctly from my last oil change, it is a slight leak from the inboard boot. I haven't seen any nasty 'milk shake' grease, but some light build up around the components that are around the CV. Suppose I'll save myself some money, and just order the hose clamps from McMaster-Carr. As for grease, what would you recommend? I suppose I can get oe rebuilds from NAPA?

Well....in that case you can just inject some grease in there and use clamps

Heavy Duty CV's... are there any companies that make them? why not?

RCV makes a heavy duty cv, lifetime guarantee, real nice stuff. That will set you back 2K.

$2,000 heavy duty CVs are great, but not for me! Do our CVs use different types of grease for the inner and outer boots? What grease should I use for mine?
