Yikes-- somehow the DAC switch was engaged while driving down the highway. I only noticed because the light started to flash on the dashboard. There was not change in how the car was driving, so I suspect that the DAC can only be engaged in 4LO. The truck seems no worse for the mistake. Anyone have any thoughts about any negative consequences? Along the same lines-- what would happen if someone hit the 4LO swith or the differential switch. Like the DAC, they shouldn't engage, but what would happen?

You couldn't really hit 4LO by accident, since you must push it in and turn it.... but even if you did manage to put it in 4LO by accident, you would know it was in there the moment you started driving.
You could definitely hit the differential lock by accident (if you're not in 4 wheel drive, it will do nothing), but you'd also know it as soon as you started driving.

The 4R needs to be in Neutral in order to engage 4Lo. All the gizmos prevents it from doing otherwise, I think. In some recent posts by other people, you can put the shift lever in Reverse while driving forward & it won't engage until you've slowed to a certain speed or make a complete stop. I've never tried it, but several others have.

Same happened to me last year
I drove to a bike club ride with it on the whole way. I didn't even know what the symbol was for. When I got home later that night, I read up on it in the manual. I accidentally had pressed the DAC button when cleaning the dash earlier that day. No harm, just suprising. I thought that there was an electrical fault but turns out OK.
Similar to pressing the window lock button by accident the first time. That took me a while to figure out too
