Damaged '96 SR5 -- Advice?

Hi all.

New to the forum! I have a '99 and used to have an '88. LOVE these trucks.

I'm trying to figure out what to do with my dad's '96, and could use some input.

Last winter, my brother crashed the family '96 4Runner SR5. She landed on her top (windshield broken, a bit caved in) and some damage to sides. All other glass is intact and she still looks pretty good, considering. To my surprise, she still runs and drives just as strong and straight as ever. 230K, rebuilt trans, 4WD works fine, most of her life in southern US. I think all of the lights even work. Interior is fair.

So she's now sitting in my yard under a tarp. I couldn't face sending her to a junkyard for a couple hundred bucks. I know she's got value and I'd like to see someone make use of it.

Best options? I feel pretty sure it can't be fixed and safely driven after damage to those pillars. Sound right? I wish it were possible to keep this truck on the road.

Sell to a private party? I'm in rural MI so probably not much demand (or funds) here.
Ebay or some other auction service? I'm thinking this might be a good idea, but no experience selling vehicles that way.
Part it out? I don't really want to do this because of time and not having a big enough protected space.

Anyway, I appreciate any input y'all might have. :hello:

Thanks!

S

These are exactly what I like. My first two were Ins. totals. They make the best rigs for hunting and general driving. No worries...just drive it. Jack everything back in place as mush as you can, put a new windshield in it, caulk up any gaps and drive it.

The last one I had I paid 700 for it...drove it about 20k...rolled it again...sold it for $300. Show me any rig you can drive for 3 cents a mile. People would make fun and say things...my response was always the same. Yep you give a crap about looking good...I give a crap about saving money.

If you have the ability pull the engine and trans/XFR case and troll Craig's List looking for a Runner needing a heart transplant.

It took 2-3 years but I finally found a 4Runner In need of a engine and trans. I'm in the process of getting it going now. Then I will remove axles and some stuff for spare parts and junk the rest.
