damaged supercharger advice

I'm considering buying a 1st gen supercharger that is for sale for $600. The pics show damage and the ad states that the nose cone is damaged.

Quoted from the ad,

"The nose housing is damaged as well as the coupling that connects the nose extension shaft to one of the rotor gears. Also, it appears that there are some pins sheared off in the aforementioned rotor gear. The main blower assembly rotates smoothly and the coating on the rotors themselves is intact. Included in this kit is the blower itself, intake plenum, nose extension, bolts, brackets, hoses, belt and two idler pulleys. My understanding is that this kit is made by Magnussen. The guy I bought this from said he got a quote from them of $300 to repair the nose assembly. I am not stating this as truth, it is what I was told. You should probably call Magnussen to investigate the repair".

Those of you more familiar with trd superchargers and repairing them, can I repair these issues myself easily without sending it off to magnassen? Do these parts have simple replacement or do they have to be "rebuilt" hence, having to send it off somewhere?

Advice, should I go forward with this and buy it or am getting into dangerous territory with this supercharger.

You are probably going to want to send it off - See dirtco's thread on his first gen repair issues (and how he finally fixed it). If it was a second gen, that would be a different story....

what do you mean by this. I thought the only difference between 1st and 2nd gen superchargers was aesthetics?

too expensive for a broken 1st gen supercharger, more like 250-400 max

I saw this same blower on eBay. Seems like a lot of work to get it fixed.

I called up magnuson and they said the dont have parts for the 1st gen and do not do any repairs on them. I asked if I sourced the parts on my own would they repair it and they still said no.

What options are out there to rebuild 1st gen superchargers besides doing it yourself?

Pass, it will be more work and headache than you need. They stopped making the nose cone for the 1st gen (grey/tan) superchargers so they are harder to find. For a few more hundred you can get a 2nd gen or a working 1st gen sc. 2nd gen sc's have a removable nose cone that is easily bought through Toyota.
