Dare I ask, 20's on a TE

Why limit yourself to only one set of wheels and tires? Fat skis for powder, shorter skis for bumps, soft skis for terrain parks, all mountain for ice.

They're called steelies.

I have a set of mud tires and a set of Blizzaks on 17" FJC rims.

Do what makes you happy. I think those wheels would look good on it. Hell my wife bought an Xp edition that apparently everybody hates. No its not 4 wheel drive. However my Tundra and our Wrangle are. She liked the looks of the Xp.

Well, given that I own a boat, 5 surfboards, 2 snowboards, a wakeboard, a road and mountain bike, and 18 rod/reel combos I really don't think my garage has any room for skis....or extra wheels! Lol.

One problem we have on work trucks up here is mud getting in the rim and machining the inside of the wheels and the outside of the calipers. Running 20s helps.

Run them if that's your steeze. If you're only doing mild wheeling, 20s are perfectly fine. You do run the risk of damaging them if you get too carried away, but it'll be fine.

@ the OP- I agree, do whatever you like- but - don't do it because it "makes the most sense". Mods, in general, don't always make sense!

Do what you really want to do if you can afford it, IMO.

I'd imagine a 275/55 tire have will have enough sidewall for what you're going to use it for

I ran this size on my F150 for 4 years. Lots of off-road and as long as you are rational should be more than fine.

If you like the look... Do it.

I'd be worried I'd shred my tire off of the rim because of the rather puny sidewall compared to say a 17", but clearly you aren't having issues...

Makes me kinda reconsider some of my assumptions about rim and tire size.

I think sometimes it is overlooked that 4Runner is a different way to say Forerunner which is defined as
fore·run·ner

"a person or thing that precedes the coming or development of someone or something else."

I am always one to question the "norms" in an effort to create my own path. Hopefully, inspiring others as previous forerunners have done for me.
