Dash Compartment

Hello,

I have an odd inquiry. Is that a storage cubby below the climate controls? I'd go look but I don't own one yet and I don't know anyone with a 4th gen Runner. I'm trying to figure out if HAM placement when I purchase a 4th gen Runner.

Thanks.

Yes, there's a cubby below the HVAC controls. It's both smallish and an odd shape, so it's not very useful. You might be able to tuck a radio back in there, but unless it's pretty compact you'll have trouble.

Edit: here's a pic

Yes, it is a storage box. But I haven't found much use for it because it's rather small and shallow. I've been thinking of removing it all together to see how much space is behind it and maybe leave it as an open cubby like my Fiancee's' RAV4.

I've contemplated installing a screen there, but haven't figured out how. I wanted it to mirror my smartphone. NO, not for texting, but for traffic conditions/weather radar/.

It would have to be able to tilt upwards toward the driver to properly see it. EEhh, some day.

Has enough room in it for a box of Altoids vertical and a small box of plastic tooth picks. I've had the dash apart several times to get to the back of the radio and I don't think there's any room behind that compartment to make it any bigger.

I removed mine and placed my Sat Radio and Back-up Camera screen there.

just bought a small CB radio and I was gonna mount it vertically IN that small drawer, so it can hide when it's closed. I planned to drill holes in the door so you can hear the sound from the bottom of the CB.
Wondering if anyone know how to remove the black piece of plastic that is in front of the cup holders. (marked with an arrow)
I figure this would be a great place to hide the wires.

Ausumm Just grad both ends and pull up, there are no snaps or anything. The plastic tabs on the back just wedge into the holes on the metal bar underneath it.

Cool beans.
I figured as much, but didn't wanna force it and/or break it.
THANKS

Bump an old thread here!

My truck got broken into this weekend and the perp was kind enough to rip out the dash cubby/compartment for the $5 in change that was in it.

Question: is there a part number or better description of this “drawer” to better help me search for a replacement?

I have one of these in your color. I removed it to put a backup screen in the spot.

Looks like the p/n is 5544035100.
